Tanzania Plans $44m Project to Handle Large Ships
According to reports, Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) will undertake a $44 million joint venture project to replace the existing Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility to handle bigger oil vessels and an increased volume of crude oil at the Dar port. The joint venture, which is expected to commence in 2008, will see partners in the investment contribute equity and possibly manage and operate the SPM facility in collecting the revenue. Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) officials, said the proposed facility will have the capacity to handle both bulk and refined liquid products. The TPA expects the new facility to provide increased revenue in addition to improvements in quality of service, safety, efficiency and the capacity to handle bigger vessels.
Cory Towage Awarded Lithuanian Deal
Cory Towage has been granted a contract to provide a variety of marine services in the Baltic at the newly built import/export oil terminal at Butinge in Lithuania. The agreement, which began in March, was awarded by Lithuania's state-owned oil company, Mazeikiu Nafta, and is centered around a single point mooring (SPM) facility for the export of Russian crude oil. Cory's function in this venture entails provision of tanker berthing and general marine support, including the provision of two vessels - a berthing tug and a workboat, and berthing/loading masters, operation of oil spill recovery equipment and maintenance services above and below the water for the SPM. T Located about five miles offshore, the SPM can accommodate tankers of up to 80,000-dwt.
