Mid America Shipyards LLC, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, has just delivered another of its truckable tug boats. The vessel has been shipped to a project in up-state New York. This tug boat was constructed in 30 working days which was done in half the time of our last tugs. The J-KRAB is the Seventh Vessel to leave our yard this year so far. Dongfang Shipbuiliding Shares to Trade
According to a report on www.rttnews.com, Dongfang Shipbuilding Company Limited intends to seek admission of its shares to trading on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. Dealings are expected to commence on AIM on 18 August 2011. Dongfang diversified into shipping, owning and operating six 9,000 dwt chemical tankers and one 9,200 dwt chemical tanker, out of Singapore and Hong Kong. The Group currently has about 530 full time employees across the two businesses. The Group has recently moved into the production of 3,200 DWT chemical stainless steel vessels. The shipbuilding order book as at June 30, 2011, according to the report on RTT News, amounted to around $89m. The contracted delivery dates of new vessels and those under construction are between August 2011 and January 2014.

Demand for Chemical Tanker Fleet Looks Up
Demand for methanol and vegoil will moderately support global seaborne trade causing the shipping fleet trading in chemicals and vegoils to expand, according to the latest edition of the Chemical Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. Newbuild Chemical Tanker Employs Innovative Tank Design
The world's first chemical tanker to use a combination of duplex stainless steel and stainless clad steel in the construction of its cargo tanks was delivered to Oita-based Hiro Naviera S.A. November 15, 2014 by Usuki Shipyard Co., Ltd., Japanese classification society ClassNK reported. The 12,500MT chemical tanker Sunrise Hope, owned by Hiro Naviera S.A., will be operated by Nippon Marine Co., Ltd. The eco-ship design vessel is equipped with 14 cargo tanks, all which employ duplex stainless steel technology.
EDCIS Order: Transas to Supply Twenty-Eight Ships
Transas Marine Denmark contracted by A/S to supply & install 28 Navi-Sailor 4000 Multifunction Display Dual ECDIS units. Transas is also to upgrade another six Eitzen Chemical vessels to the latest hardware and software ECDIS standards over the next two years. The package for each vessel includes 2 x 26" Hatteland monitors, RS6B computers, radar overlay and Firewall enabling a direct connection between the vessel's satellite communication equipment and the Transas ECDIS. After the installations, all vessels will run the unique "Pay As You Sail" chart concept from Transas.
WESMAR Thrusters ABS DP Approval
WESMAR announced that two more of their all stainless steel bow thrusters have been given ABS Certificate of Design Assessment for dynamic positioning (DP) applications. WESMAR Models V2-24 and V2-26 Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thrusters have joined the V2-20NS system, which received the design approval rating earlier this year. Odfjell SE, Crystal Pool Form Joint Venture
Odfjell announced the formation of Odfjell Euroceanica As, a 50/50 Joint Venture between Odfjell SE and Euroceanica Ltd. The J/V will trade all vessels currently operated by Crystal Pool and Odfjell Europe in the European short sea market. The new Crystal Pool set-up will open up for possibilities to offer combined services from Baltic to and from the Mediterranean, and give extensive world-wide coverage via the global presence and services of Odfjell Tankers. Existing contracts and commitments with all respective customers will remain unchanged. The new J/V looks forward to starting renewal dialogues of existing contracts as well as discussing new contracts and commitments for 2012 and beyond.
ClassNK Approves Duplex Stainless Steel Tankers
ClassNK announced that it has approved the first application of duplex stainless steel (NSSC 2120) on vessels in Japan. Tankers built by the Japanese shipyards Sasaki Shipbuilding Co., Ltd and Hakata Shipbuilding Co., Ltd were applied with the duplex stainless steel, which was manufactured by Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation. The two domestic vessels, a chemical tanker and an oil tanker, were launched on January 17, 2013. ClassNK Issues New Welding Guidelines
Classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) announced that it has released new Guidelines on the Welding of Duplex Stainless Steels. The guidelines have been developed to help shipyards safely and effectively make use of new duplex steels that are increasingly being used in the construction of cargo tanks for chemical carriers. Wesmar Wins ABS DP1 Approval
Wesmar announced that their Model V2-20NS Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thruster has been given ABS approval for dynamic positioning applications (DP1). The horsepower rating for the V2-20NS is 75 to 150, and the company anticipates similar approval soon for their V2-26 and V2-36 systems, which operate on vessels up to 350 HP. Wesmar’s polished stainless steel props are standard, and stainless steel seal with bearing carriers sync with the stainless steel casting. Odfjell Inks LOI for Additional Chemical Tankers
Odfjell SE said it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) for two additional chemical tankers to be built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in China. The capital commitments will be about $116 million. The vessels will be 38,000 dwt with 40 stainless steel cargo tanks and a cargo capacity of about 45,000 cbm. Both vessels will be prepared for dual fuel solution. The LOI, which includes options, follows on orders already committed at the yard for four 49,000 dwt vessels with 33 stainless steel cargo tanks. “Following this order and other commitments recently taken, most of our renewal needs for the 'super segregators' have been met,” said Kristian Mørch, CEO of Odfjell SE.

Navig8 Chemical Adds New Tanker from Kitanihon
Chemical shipping company Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. has taken delivery of its first stainless steel chemical tanker, the Navig8 Sirius, from Japanese shipbuilder Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Navig8 Sirius is a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker. The Navig8 Sirius is the first of six vessels contracted at Kitanihon to be delivered to the Company and is the first vessel to be delivered under the secured loan facility with Credit Suisse AG announced on June 22, 2016. The Navig8 Sirius will be entered into and operated in Navig8 Group's Stainless8 commercial pool.

Testing FloScan Stainless Steel Flowmeters
FloScan’s new ABS-certified stainless steel flowmeters were tested on the F/V North American powered by a CAT 399 1125hp main engine. The North American is 110’ Marco-built crab boat once featured in the popular Deadliest Catch TV Series. Erling Skaar, owner of the North American, was onboard and had this to say about the new stainless steel flowmeters, “We ran tests at various RPM rates and vessel speeds on Puget Sound and our FloScan meters registered 118.0 gallons consumed. We compared it with our sight level gauge which measured in at 117.5 gallons consumed.

Principal Maritime Management LLC of Southport, Connecticut, a shipping company owned by affiliates of Apollo Global Management LLC, has formed a new platform in the stainless steel chemical shipping sector. Additionally, Princimar Chemical Carriers has acquired its initial three stainless steel chemical tankers, all of which were purchased from existing owners and are currently in service. Princimar Chemical Carriers is focused primarily on acquiring stainless steel chemical tankers which operate in the global specialty and commodity chemical shipping trades. Princimar has fully committed financing in place for additional acquisitions, and plans an initial fleet of 12 to 15 vessels.

Odfjell Expands Fleet
Odfjell has bought M/T "Giada D" from Italian owners. The vessel is built in 1996 at Chantiere Navale de Poli, Italy and she is 10,115 dwt with stainless steel cargo tanks. The change of ownership will take place in 3rd Quarter 2006. Further, Odfjell has entered into a long-term time-charter agreement with purchase option for a vessel of 33.000 dwt with stainless steel cargo tanks. The ship will be built at Kitanihon Shipyard, Japan, and will be owned by Yuyo Steamship Co Ltd, Japan. Delivery of the newbuilding will be 3rd Quarter 2009. This agreement will bring the Odfjell-controlled Japanese deep-sea time-charter vessels on order to a total of 16 units, including five vessels from Ahrenkiel. In addition to this Odfjell has 10 newbuildings on order, and options for another 6 ships.
POSCO to Reset Steel Prices
POSCO is rearranging its steel prices in response to fluctuating international prices and domestic demand. On May 1, the steel producer will lift prices of mini-mill products, stainless steel and cut steel plate prices. In a statement, the company said prices for mini-mill hot-rolled coil will rise by $21 per ton to $501 in the domestic market due to falling inventory levels but prices for steel plate and steel plates for shipbuilding will fall by $31 per ton to $661 and $623, respectively. Its move is affected by recent price cuts by Japanese steel makers. For orders made from May 3, the prices of 300 series hot-rolled and cold-rolled products will each rise by $213 to $2,581 and $2,869 per ton, it said.
