Liftboat Taking on Water in US Gulf

Fifteen people have been rescued from a liftboat that lost power and is listing and taking in water in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.The master of the 134-foot liftboat Ram XVIII reported on Sunday that the vessel had a 45-degree list and no power, causing the vessel to be unable to self correct the list, approximately 23 nautical miles west of Southwest Pass, La. with 15 people aboard. USCG Rescues Unconscious Boater

The Coast Guard rescued an individual from a marsh flat in Barataria Waterway located approximately six miles north of Grand Isle, Tuesday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders were notified by a good Samaritan of an unconscious person in a 17-foot aluminum john boat aground on a marsh flat at10:55 a.m. Watchstanders directed the launch of two 24-foot response boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans. The boatcrew arrived on scene within 10 minutes and safely transferred the individual back to Grand Isle. The individual was then transferred to a local hospital by ambulance. The Coast Guard boatcrew reported that the person was semi-coherent upon transfer to ambulance crewmembers.

Good Samaritan, USCG Rescue 1 near Grand Isle

A Good Samaritan and a U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew rescued one person from the water 19 miles offshore Grand Isle, Friday. Watchstanders at the 8th Coast Guard District command center received a 406 emergency position indicating radio beacon for the shrimping vessel Andy & Johnny Jr. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans established radio communications with the distressed vessel and issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast. Sector New Orleans directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Grand Isle 45-foot Response Boat — Medium boat-crew, a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew, and a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., HC-144 fixed-wing crew.

Coast Guard Responds to South Louisiana Casualty

The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an allision between a tug pushing a barge and a pipeline near Bayou Perot 30 miles south of New Orleans, Tuesday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report that the 47-foot tug Shanon E. Settoon was pushing a 154-foot oil barge when it allided with a pipeline 6 p.m., Tuesday. USCG’s 8th District Assists Several Mariners

It was a busy night Friday, May 3, as several mariners required the assistance of the Coast Guard units around the New Orleans and Galveston, Texas, areas. A 23-ft. safeboat from Station Grand Isle, La., was dispatched to assist a 45-ft. pleasure craft taking on water in Timbalier Bay, about10 p.m. Friday. The crew of the safeboat passed a de-watering pump to the five-man crew of the First Class, who were able to safely transit to the pier at Coco Marina. The Coast Guard crew followed to ensure their safe transit and mooring. In a separate case, a 41-ft. utility boat from Station Galveston safely transported a man suffering from abdominal pains with a weak pulse and shallow respiration from a tanker about 2 a.m. Saturday.

USCG Maintains Hurricane Response

The Coast Guard’s current emphasis is the safety and security of people in the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina, and is working closely with federal, state and local partners on that goal. Coast Guard air and boat crews have assisted in the rescue of 1,259 people, and they are continuing to respond to distress calls. The Coast Guard is working with FEMA, and is delivering relief supplies aboard its C-130 cargo planes. There are approximately 4,000 Coast Guardsmen currently in the area working on response and recovery, as well as 15 cutters, 37 airplanes and rescue helicopters, 63 small boats, three maritime safety and security teams, three oil and hazardous material response teams and five aid to navigation teams.
