A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced one injured person, and a Coast Guard Station Juneau response boat – medium crew transported five people from a hard-aground pleasure craft near Cube Cove, approximately 65 miles northeast of Sitka, Alaska, Thursday afternoon. The Jayhawk crew hoisted and transported the injured woman to awaiting medical personnel in Juneau. The remaining five mariners were picked up by good Samaritans, transferred to the Station Juneau RB-M and transported to Juneau. Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstanders received a request for help over VHF channel 16 reporting the vessel was hard aground, taking on water and one passenger sustained an apparent head injury. The Jayhawk and RB-M crews were dispatched to the scene.

The Coast Guard 17th District informs that it has taken off a 56-year-old male patient from the cruise ship 'Carnival Miracle' in Stephens Passage near Juneau, Alaska. A 45-foot response boat-medium crew from Coast Guard Station Juneau safely transported the man to awaiting medical personnel in Juneau after it was reported he was suffering from a diabetes-related episode. Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center personnel received the report from the crew of the Carnival Miracle and launched the response boat crew with Juneau Emergency Medical Associates personnel aboard to rendezvous with the vessel. “A case like this highlights the training and proficiency of our boat crewmembers and interoperability with our local partners,” said Lt. Stacey Tate, Command Duty Officer, Sector Juneau.

The Coast Guard installed a Skystream 3.7 wind turbine which is estimated to produce approximately 10 percent electrical load and help the Coast Guard gain experience working with renewable energy and assess wind turbines use at remote Coast Guard sites in Alaska at Station Juneau Monday, Oct. 11, 2010. The Coast Guard Partnership in Education program and State of Alaska Wind for Schools program is also working with the Juneau school District to provide data from the turbines and educational opportunities for students to learn about wind energy. Coast Guard boarding teams from the Coast Guard cutter Naushon and Coast Guard Stations Ketchikan and Juneau terminated the voyages of two fishing vessel and intercepted an intoxicated boater in Southeast. A Coast Guard cutter Naushon boarding team conducted a random safety boarding aboard the 32-foot fishing vessel Tsunami, based out of Seattle, Saturday in Clarence Strait. During the boarding it was discovered that the vessel had the correct number of survival suits onboard but two of them were unserviceable. The crew of the Naushon terminated the vessel’s voyage for safety reasons and escorted them to Nichol’s Passage where the Naushon was relieved by the 47-foot motor lifeboat and crew from Coast Guard Station Ketchikan who escorted the Tsunami’s crew into Ketchikan.

A USCG boat crew from Station Juneau cited and terminated a commercial fishing boat crews' operations in Stephen's Passage. The USCG crew stopped 31-ft. gillnet boat Lil' Lugger for a federal requirements compliance check. The boat contained only one immersion suit for three fishermen. The Station Juneau crew also noted an insufficient number of fire extinguishers and sound producing devices used for signaling help during distress situations. Following the boarding, the USCG crew terminated the vessel's fishing trip and escorted the crew to Auke Bay.
