USCG Responds to Report of Downed Aircraft near Panama City

The Coast Guard is responding to a report of a downed military aircraft approximately 57 miles south of Panama City, Florida, Thursday. Watchstanders at the 8th Coast Guard District received a call from the Air Force at approximately 9:30 a.m., reporting a downed military aircraft with one person aboard. Responding assets are: Coast Guard Cutter Bonito Coast Guard Station Panama City 45-foot Response Boat - Medium crew Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew The incident is under investigation.

USCG Search For Boater Missing 50 miles South St Marks, Florida

The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater 50-miles south of St. Marks, Florida, Sunday. Missing is George Taylor, 60, from Tallahassee, Florida, who was reportedly sailing his 27-foot Catalina sailboat from St. Marks to Carrabelle Florida. A friend of Taylor’s called Coast Guard Sector Mobile to report him overdue at 4.p.m.Saturday. The caller’s last contact with Taylor was Thursday morning via social media; he reportedly stated his intentions were to be in Carrabelle Friday evening. Sector Mobile issued an urgent marine information broadcast, dispatched a MH-60 Dolphin Helicopter and a C-130 Hercules Fixed Wing Aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, as well as a 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Coast Guard Station Panama City, Saturday at 5 p.m.

USCG Rescues 4 from Sinking Vessel

A U.S. Coast Guard boatcrew rescued four people approximately 30 miles south of Cape San Blas, Fla., Friday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Panama City, Fla., received a report of a 55-foot fishing vessel, the CBS, taking on water 30 miles South of Cape San Blas with four people aboard. The vessel operator originally made a distress phone call to his wife using his satellite phone, who then subsequently relayed the information to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Sector Mobile issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 45-foot response boat out of Station Panama City and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile. Two good Samaritan vessels heard the UMIB and began transiting to offer assistance.

The Coast Guard announce the selection of the next Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard –  Master Chief Petty Officer Steven Cantrell. Master Chief Petty Officer Steven Cantrell is the current Atlantic Area Master Chief and will relieve the current MCPO-CG, Michael P. Leavitt, during a change of watch ceremony in May in Cape May N.J. Cantrell hails from Memphis, Tenn., and joined the Coast Guard in 1983. Coast Guard Searches for Missing Boaters

Coast Guard crews from Alabama and Florida are searching this morning for three boaters approximately three to five nautical miles north of Dog Island in St. George Sound, off the coast of Carrabelle, Fla. an 87-ft. patrol boat, the Coast Guard Cutter Bonito, from Pensacola, Fla., are searching for the boaters. About 6 p.m. Tuesday, Coast Guard Group Mobile received a distress call from a boater on the pleasure craft Sun Bird. Guard his boat was taking on water. After five minutes, the boater said his radio was getting wet, and he couldn't take it anymore. the area of the distressed boaters. A rescue boat from Station Panama City was also sent to assist with the search. vessel and aircraft and a vessel from Sea Tow, a commercial salvage company, also responded.
