GC Rieber Bags Statnett Management Contract

Norwegian shipping company GC Rieber Shipping has won a technical management contract from Statnett Transport for the Norwegian logistics company’s two RoRo vessels.The vessels are the 9,120-bhp Elektron (built 2008) and 1,500-bhp Elektron II (built 1969), said a stock exchange announcement from the company that operates offshore subsea support vessels, marine seismic vessels and polar logistics and research expeditions."The contract has a duration of three years plus options. Nexans Sets a New World Record in Submarine Cable in Norway

While the Nordic countries are among the most advanced in terms of clean electricity generation, their consumption of energy per capita is also among the highest in the world due to cold climate and a sparse population distribution. To meet growing electricity demand and accompany increased energy production, BKK Nett AS, one of Norway’s largest power companies, decided to install the Kollsnes-Mongstad power line to strengthen the electrical grid in Western Norway. After the manufacturing and installation of two submarine cables for Kollsnes-Mongstad connection, BKK Nett AS has awarded Nexans with a contract worth approximately 37 million euros for delivery of the third and last submarine cable to complete the Modalen-Mongstad connection.

ABB to Increase Norway’s Grid Capacity

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth around $30 million from Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett SF to supply power transformers that will help to significantly increase the capacity of the country’s central power grid, bolstering its energy security and ability to transmit more renewable energy. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2015. The order for nine transformers was booked in the second quarter of 2015. This includes seven 1,000 megavolt ampere (MVA) 420/300 kilovolt (kV) autotransformers and two 300 MVA 420/132 kV power transformers. The transformers will help increase transmission capacity of Norwayʼs main grid and ensure a stable power supply.
