Marine Coatings: Self-Indicating Tech Provides Anti-corrosion Certainty
In the months and years before the Covid-19 pandemic, the world was getting used to the idea of reducing its reliance on oil with more focus on liquefied natural gas (LNG). Consequently, shipyards and shipowners responded to the shift by building new or recommissioning existing LNG carriers and storage vessels. However, reducing dependence on Russian oil and gas from much of the world market – where it was the second biggest exporter of the product – has instigated a greater scramble…

Gas Carrier Concept Stems from Bulker Design
Deltamarin Ltd and Brevik Technology AS, a VARD affiliate, have joined forces to develop a novel multigas carrier design concept that combines the design of Deltamarin’s B.Delta and the new-generation patented cylindrical gas tanks by Brevik Technology. By combining the B.Delta design and separate cylindrical gas containment tanks, a cost-efficient and easy-to-build solution is now available to the gas carrier market, the developers explained. The design can be utilized for LNG, LPG, LEG and ethane carriers. “Up to now gas carriers have been complex and expensive to design and construct.
Marine Sanitary Devices: Size Matters
When it comes to marine sewage, it pays to measure. It turns out that the physical size of the equipment itself is not your only worry. Marine Sanitation Devices: (perhaps) the three dirtiest words in the nautical lexicon. Nevertheless, Marine Sanitary Devices – or MSD’s, as they are affectionately known – are pre-engineered, pre-packaged blackwater/greywater treatment systems. We don’t like to talk about it, we know that waste streams are treated and – we hope – that they are also in compliance. Installed on all manners of vessels, nowhere are these devices (arguably) as important as the ones that provide service on the myriad of inland and brown water workboats.

LBC Tank Terminals, Rotterdam Port Invest in New Jetty
The Port of Rotterdam and the independent storage company LBC Tank Terminals have reached a long term agreement for the construction of a new jetty at the LBC terminal in Botlek, Rotterdam. ‘This new jetty is the first and a very important step in the expansion of our terminal in Rotterdam. The growing import of liquid chemicals into Europe results in an increasing demand for liquid storage tanks in hubs such as Rotterdam. This investment will enable us to offer additional capacity and to respond even better to the storage requests of existing and new customers’, explains Luc Jorissen, Business President at LBC. The new jetty will have four berths, two for seagoing vessels and two for barges. This will quadruple the jetty capacity of the LBC terminal.
