Cammell Laird Launches Claire House Charity Kite Boat

Merseyside shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird held a special ceremony to launch a unique kite boat designed to raise funds for charity Claire House Childrenā€™s Hospice. The ā€˜CL Challengerā€™ was designed by retired shipyard naval architect Bill Owen incorporating a kite as the main power source to propel the vessel. The eco-friendly vessel also generates electric power for radio, lights and GPS through batteries charged via solar panel. It will now be used by a team of intrepid kite surfers for a range of sea-faring challenges to raise vital cash for the Bebington childrenā€™s charity.

Kurdish Crude Lightered, Destination Unknown

Part of a Kurdish oil cargo has been offloaded from a Greek-managed tanker into another tanker in the South China Sea, but mystery surrounds the identity of the buyer and where the two tankers are headed. The United Emblem, which is carrying more than 1 million barrels of oil, is one of three tankers loaded with oil from the autonomous Kurdish region, which is trying to sell oil independently. Iraqi Kurdistan is locked in a bitter legal and diplomatic struggle with Baghdad over international oil sales. A U.S. judge on Tuesday refused a request by Baghdad, citing a lack of jurisdiction, to seize 1 million barrels of oil aboard the United Kalavrvta tanker, which has been anchored off the port of Galveston since the weekend.

BP poll shows delegates at SPE Intelligent Energy International 2013 believe the digital generation will enable emerging technologies to optimize production and enhance safety management. Oil and gas industry professionals believe that the digital generation will enable emerging technologies to optimize production and enhance safety management, according to a poll conducted today at the SPE Intelligent Energy International 2013 exhibition in Dubai. 93% of participants backed the benefits of digitalization while 7% disagreed. The poll was conducted by BP on the final day of IE2013, which is expected to have attracted more than 2,000 business leaders and senior engineering professionals from across the world.
