GL Nobel Denton Expands Safety and Risk Services

India Plans to Increase Submarine Fleet

Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the country must rethink its submarine building plan and look for greater numbers than the existing plan of making 24 submarines. "Indian Navy needs to rethink its submarine building plans and should look for more number of submarines," Parrikar said. Referring to the existing 30-year submarine building plan that envisages construction of 24 submarines--both nuclear and conventional--Parrikar said India needed a longer plan till 2050.

Orange Shipbuilding Signs Partnership with OSHA

SMU-DNV International Cooperation Centre

Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) and DNV have signed a strategic partnership agreement to establish the “SMU-DNV International Cooperation Centre. The objective is to further expand and deepen the existing relationship between the parties and thus advance the development of the Shanghai International Shipping Centre. According to the strategic partnership agreement, Shanghai Maritime University and DNV will use the SMU-DNV International Cooperation Centre as a platform to strengthen cooperation in the areas of competence development, training, maritime research and development, scholarships, etc., thus contributing to the growth of the Shanghai International Shipping Centre. At the same ceremony, Jörg Beiler was appointed visiting professor of SMU by Yu Shicheng.

HK Container Terminal Interests Cashed-in by DP World

DP World has entered into two transactions to monetise its interests in two container terminals & a logistics centre in Hong Kong. The transactions will see DP World monetise 75% of its interests in CSX World Terminals Hong Kong Limited (CT3), which operates berth 3 of the Kwai Chung Container Terminal (‘CT3’) and ATL Logistics Centre Hong Kong Limited (ATL), a logistics centre located alongside CT3, and 100% of its interest in Asia Container Terminal Ltd (ACT), which operates Asia Container Terminal 8 West (CT8).

Kim Heng Offshore Inks Pact with Iran Marine

The Singapore-based  offshore services provider Kim Heng Offshore & Marine has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Iran Marine Fund (IMF)to provide its technical expertise and financing to Iranian offshore marine and oil & gas projects. Based on the MOU, which was signed by Mehrdad Mozaffari, the IMF managing director, and Tan Keng Hoe Melvin, the general manager for supply chain management in Kim Heng, on Monday, the Singaporean company agreed to provide a €400 million finance to develop Iran's marine industries in several phases.

Partnership Targets Waste Conversion Solutions

Terragon Environmental Technologies Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with Green Marine Capital (GMC) in an effort to enable off grid sustainability by developing and commercializing simple compact and economical products that allow any habitat to convert its waste into useful resources, such as energy and clean water, Terragon said. Terragon’s first commercially available product, the patented Micro Auto Gasification System (MAGS), converts each kilogram of waste generated by a habitat into 2kWh of thermal energy. A second product, the Wastewater Electrochemical treatment Technology (WETT), converts sewage into clean water that can be used for many utilities. Combined, MAGS and WETT can eliminate waste discharge from any habitat while reducing its need for energy and water.

Inmarsat to Deliver Fleet Xpress with SpeedCast

SpeedCast International, a provider of high-speed broadband connectivity to the global maritime industry, has entered into a strategic partnership with Inmarsat, positioning Inmarsat’s new Fleet Xpress service, powered by the Global Xpress (GX) network, as a key service within its maritime services portfolio, being fully integrated with SpeedCast’s existing maritime SIGMA gateway and other Value Added Services. Over the next five years, SpeedCast has committed to roll out Fleet Xpress to approximately 2,000 vessels.

Damen Partners with Three BWTS Suppliers

Damen Shipyards announced it has established three strategic partnership agreements with major Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) system suppliers. It complements the worldwide One Stop BWT Retrofitting Service offered by Damen. This one-stop service gives shipowners peace of mind in their challenge to comply with ballast water regulations in the most cost effective and timely way, Damen said. With more than 60,000 vessels to be retrofitted in the near future, there is a need to coordinate and ensure cost effective implementation and life cycle support.

New Defense Cooperation with India

Crewing Managers V. Ships in New Strategic Partnership

V.Ships Leisure (a provider of ship-management services to the passenger shipping industries) with V.Hospitality and MHG have formed a strategic partnership. The companies have a number of new joint projects in progress and the partnership will allow for a more effective collaboration. “We’re delighted to announce our partnership with MHG,” said Bertrand Petyt, Crew Operations Manager at V.Ships. “We have been working with MHG for many years and not only do we have a trusted and valued relationship but our companies’ philosophies and service standards are aligned.” The new partnership will include our hotel & cruise recruitment division V.Hospitality as well as our yacht recruitment division The Crew Network (Antibes).

Odfjell Finalizes Transaction with Lindsay Goldberg

Odfjell announced it has closed the transaction to form the strategic partnership with Lindsay Goldberg. Through the transaction, Lindsay Goldberg has acquired a 49% interest in each of Odfjell's tank terminals in Rotterdam, Netherlands and Houston, Texas as well as in the greenfield project in Charleston, SC. Odfjell retains the remaining 51% ownership stake. Odfjell has received a total cash consideration of $247m in connection with the transaction, and the parties will invest a total of EUR 25 million of new equity to facilitate planned upgrades and capacity expansion of the Rotterdam terminal.   

Tradiant Partners With Vitria

Tradiant, the online advantage for global transportation, announced a strategic partnership with Vitria Technology, Inc., a leading e-business platform provider, to integrate Tradiant's enterprise-wide technology solutions with companies moving international cargo. Tradiant will leverage Vitria's BusinessWare product, which will allow Tradiant to seamlessly link its booking, documentation, contract management and business-to-business e-marketplace products with shippers, forwarders, carriers and third-party logistics providers.

Partnership Seeks to Boost Maritime VSAT for China

SpeedCast International Limited, a global satellite communications and network service provider, and Beijing Marine Communications and Navigation Co. Ltd (MCN), a subsidiary of the China Transport Telecommunications & Information Centre (CTTIC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Strategic Cooperation (MOU). Under the MOU, MCN and SpeedCast will form a strategic partnership by integrating MCN’s VSAT network in Asia Pacific and SpeedCast’s global VSAT networks to provide global connectivity to the maritime industry. This partnership aims to provide seamless connectivity for both MCN and SpeedCast customers wherever they are, as well as providing a wide portfolio of applications enhancing productivity, crew welfare and safety.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, and China State Shipbuilding Corporation's (CSSC) Nanjing Luzhou Machine Co Ltd (LMC) signed a joint venture contract  to form CSSC Luzhou MacGregor Machine Co Ltd. Subject to all relevant authority approvals, expected within this year, LMC will own 51 percent and MacGregor 49 percent of the new joint venture company.
