300 kilos Cocaine Intercepted in Portsmouth Port

The drugs were seized following the search of the cargo vessel Star Stratos at Portsmouth port yesterday evening. Approximately 300 kilos were discovered concealed within a shipment of bananas which had originated in Colombia. U.S. Coast Guard Selects Stratos Government Services to Deploy Ku-Band Communications Network. Stratos Government Services Inc. Stratos Acquires Blue Ocean Wireless Assets

Stratos BV, a remote communications provider, has purchased most of the operational assets of Blue Ocean Wireless Ltd. (BOW). BOW was a provider of shipboard GSM services that enabled crewmembers to use their personal GSM phones to communicate with family and friends by voice and SMS. As part of the acquisition, Stratos assumes responsibility for providing services to most of BOW’s customers, including many large commercial shipping companies worldwide. Since July 1, BOW customers have been receiving invoices directly from Stratos. Stratos will continue to market and sell BOW’s services to existing and new customers, under the new brand GSM Oceanwide.

Ship Equip International AS and Inmarsat plc (LSE: ISAT.L) announced an agreement for Inmarsat, to acquire Ship Equip for a total consideration of $163.7m. Inmarsat is a provider of global mobile satellite communications services. Ship Equip, based in Ålesund, Norway, is a provider of VSAT maritime communications services to the shipping, offshore oil & gas and fishing markets. Stratos Supplies Singapore’s SE Ship Management

FleetBroadband for Fairplay Towage Deep-Sea Tugboats

Stratos Global is deploying the Inmarsat FleetBroadband satellite communications service on six deep-sea tugboats in Fairplay Towage’s fleet. Deployment on four of the vessels already has been completed. Based in Hamburg, Fairplay Towage is a tugboat operators in the ports of Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Rostock, Wismar, Szczecin and Swinoujscie. Its fleet includes 27 modern vessels for harbor, coastal and deep-sea towage. Capuano Joins KVH GOM Sales

To help support the growing customer base of its TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT BroadbandSM network, KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) has hired Cheri Capuano, a 16-year maritime satellite communications industry veteran, to manage commercial sales in the Gulf of Mexico. Capuano comes to KVH from Stratos Global, where she worked as a sales manager for 11 years. Prior to her experience at Stratos, she spent five years at CruisePhone.
