Brazil's GranEnergia Receive Unusual DP-3 Accommodation Vessel

STX Marine (STXM), which split off from the STX Corporation in 2011, say they partnered with CSS Designs Ltd. for 5 years to develop the ground breaking Compact Semi-Submersible (CSS) design of the 'Olympia' which they believe will change the long term landscape of the offshore vessel market. The primary function of the Olympia is to act as a floating accommodation unit for rig personnel. The vessel has a DP-3 rating and will remain connected to an offshore facility via a telescopic gangway system.

Su-Jou Kim New President & CEO STX Europe

STX Europe AS appointed Su-Jou Kim as its new President and CEO. Su-Jou Kim will replace Sang-Ho Shin, and will start in his new position with immediate effect. Sang-Ho Shin joined STX Europe in September 2008, initially as COO, and since May 2009 as President & CEO. Shin has been appointed COO of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding and head of STX's shipbuilding operations in Korea. Shin will remain a Board member of STX Europe AS. Su-Jou Kim has held various management positions within the STX Business Group - most recently as Head of Business Development and Deputy President of STX Corporation. Mr Kim is well known with STX Europe since he spent significant amounts of time with the company in 2008, including holding the position of Chairman of STX Europe AS from September 2008 to March 2009.

Aker Yards Gets $89.7m Loan from STX to Meet Funding Needs

Aker Yards said 40.4 percent shareholder STX Corporation has provided it with a $89.7m loan in order to meet a short-term financing deficit. Aker Yards is in the process of selling a 70 percent stake in three of its Merchant Vessel shipyards to Russian investment firm FLC. However the deal has been delayed by the Ukrainian competition authorities, and Aker Yards said this has caused a short-term liquidity problem.

L27/38 GenSets for TML Heavy Transport Vessels

SeaMetric International AS, Stavanger, Norway has during December 2007 ordered a package of 24 MAN Diesel marine generating sets type 8L27/38 for four specialized heavy-lifter transport vessels. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding has now been agreed upon between MAN Diesel and SeaMetric International for future identical GenSets to power planned newbuildings. New Licence Contract for TCA Turbochargers

(Contract signing in Augsburg (from left): M.K. ENPACO Corporation in Changwon, Republic of Korea, will manufacture the new TCA turbocharger model for MAN B&W Diesel under licence. The persons in charge have now signed a corresponding contract with a term of 10 years. After Japanese Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., ENPACO is the second licensee for this new axial turbocharger generation. ENPACO, affiliate of MAN B&W engine licensee STX Corporation, is specialised in turbocharger and engine component production.

MAN B&W Marks LNG Milestone

Three of the world’s largest LNG-carriers successfully tested their propulsion packages at the end of last month. Each vessel is powered by two 6S70ME-C electronically controlled, two-stroke, lowspeed diesel engines, and this event marks a first for MAN Diesel in the LNG sector. The engines will operate on HFO. The vessels are part of a Qatargas project that comprises an impressive 45 vessels, each fitted with two MAN B&W low-speed prime movers, making for a grand total of 90 electronically controlled two-stroke engines. Of these, 31 QFlex carriers will receive two MAN B&W 6S70ME-C engines, each developing 18,660 kW, while the 14 larger QMax carriers will employ two MAN B&W 7S70ME-C engines, each rated at 21,770 kW at 91 rpm.

MAN B&W to Power LNG Carriers

The Shipping Requisition Team has confirmed orders for six Q-max LNG carriers. Each vessel will be powered by two MAN B&W Diesel 7S70ME-C electronically controlled two-stroke low speed diesel engines. These vessels will be the world’s largest LNG carriers, each able to transport 265,000 m3 of LNG. The vessel will operate with a reliquefaction plant for operation of boil off gas to the cargo tanks. All 12 MAN B&W Diesel 7S70ME-C engines will be built by the Doosan Engine Co. Ltd. (Korea). Each main engine is rated at 21,770 kW at 91 rpm. Each vessel will also be fitted with four MAN B&W Diesel 9L32/40 Holeby GenSets. The 24 gensets will be built by the STX Corporation (Korea).
