Edda Breeze, the first of seven of Norway-based Edda Wind's offshore wind service vessels, is visiting Oslo this week.Edda Wind took delivery of the CSOV earlier this year. The vessel was built by Astilleros Gondán shipyard in Spain.The vessel is 88.3 meters long with a beam of 19.7 meters. Denmark to Build Giant Wind Energy Hub In the North Sea
Denmark has reached a deal on the construction of the first of its kind wind energy hub in the North Sea that promises to produce yet unseen amounts of green electricity, in what has been described as the largest construction project in Danish history.The energy hub - an artificial island - will serve as an offshore power plant gathering and distributing green electricity from hundreds of wind turbines surrounding the island directly to consumers in countries surrounding the North Sea.

Fugro to Investigate Wind Farm Sites
Fugro and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, have signed two contracts to investigate the Borssele wind area, off the Zeeland coast. The workscope includes measuring meteorological and oceanographic conditions and performing geophysical investigations of the seabed. Fugro will measure wind speeds at the future wind farm locations using its Seawatch Wind LiDAR , a device that uses laser beams to collect meteorological data from a floating buoy. This information is crucial for wind farm developers who use the data to calculate as accurately as possible the anticipated yield from the planned wind farms in the Borssele wind farm zone.
Wärtsilä, Versa Power to Develop Fuel Cell Technology
Wärtsilä, the leading provider of power solutions to both the marine and energy markets, and Versa Power Systems (VPS), a leading developer of environmentally friendly, high-power solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), today announced a co-operative agreement to develop and integrate Versa Power's SOFC technology into Wärtsilä products. A key target of the agreement is to develop commercial Wärtsilä fuel cell products that generate power and heat for various applications in the distributed energy and marine markets. The agreement allows Wärtsilä to integrate VPS fuel cell stack modules, especially for larger power range products. For VPS, the agreement provides a dedicated partner with the ability to commercialize fuel cell products in large markets around the globe.
MacGregor Cranes from Cargotec for Windmill Park
Cargotec is supplying two MacGregor offshore deck cranes for installation on an offshore converter platform, BorWin beta, which will feed 800MW of renewable energy generated by two offshore windfarms into the German electricity grid. The power converter will begin test operation at the end of 2012. The MacGregor luffing cranes have an SWL of 10 tonne at 41m outreach and will be used to offload supply vessels, handle materials on BorWin beta's open deck areas and lower them to the decks below via hatches. They are also 'man-riding approved'.
Call for Offshore Wind Support Ships
The Community of European Shipyards’ Association (CESA) and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) are calling on the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the building of new ships to serve the expanding offshore wind energy market over the coming years. CESA and EWEA urge the European Commission to develop programs and funding mechanisms, and for the European Investment Bank to take the necessary measures to support the risk related to the necessary significant investments, to ensure that a sufficient number of installation vessels are available to the offshore wind industry. They also argue that the offshore wind power industry should be identified as a key industry in the EU’s 2020 strategy for smart, green growth.
