Lindblad Expeditions' Second Polar Ship Christened

Lindblad Expeditions announced the launch of its second new polar vessel, National Geographic Resolution, on her inaugural voyage to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands. Under Antarctica’s clear blue skies and parked on fast ice in the Weddell Sea’s Duse Bay, guests walked onto the ice to cheer on Captain Heidi Norling as she christened the 126-guest National Geographic Resolution.“I wish this ship calm winds, fair seas, and great adventures. May everyone who sails with her be blessed,” marked Captain Norling as she tossed the bottle.

Inside the New Expedition Cruise Ship National Geographic Endurance

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings in March took delivery of the newly constructed expedition cruise vessel National Geographic Endurance from Norwegian shipbuilder Ulstein Verft, marking the official completion of the line’s first polar new build.Endurance's hull was built in Poland, and the remainder of the vessel was constructed by Ulstein in Norway. National Geographic Endurance Floats Out

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, a global player in expedition cruises and adventure travel experiences, has celebrated the float out of National Geographic Endurance in Ulstein Verft, Norway.The first polar newbuild for the line, the 126-guest vessel is fully stabilized with the highest ice class (PC5 Category A) of any purpose-built passenger vessel, according to a press release.The vessel is scheduled for delivery in January 2020.Read Maritime Reporter & Engineering News' feature on Sven Lindblad from earlier in 2019 here: https://www.marinelink.com/news/explorer-profile-sven-lindblad-463899"Due to Polar Class 5 (PC5), the ship can venture far into polar areas.

Keel Laid for National Geographic Resolution

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, a global provider of expedition cruises and adventure travel experiences,  and Norwegian shipbuilder and ship designer Ulstein Group have celebrated the keel laying of Lindblad’s second polar new build at the Crist shipyard in Gdynia, Poland.The occasion also served as the official naming ceremony of the vessel. It is named as National Geographic Resolution,  in honor of Captain James Cook.Captain James Cook was the first to circumnavigate Antarctica, cross the Antarctic Circle, and the first European to reach Hawaii. While he captained several ships in his career, his favorite was the 'MS Resolution'.The newbuild is sister ship to the National Geographic Endurance which is being finalized at Ulstein Verft.

National Geographic Endurance Arrives Ulstein

The first polar newbuild in the history of Lindblad Expeditions National Geographic Endurance arrived in Ulsteinvik, Norway, Tuesday after traveling nearly six days from Gydnia, Poland, where the hull was constructed.The workers at Ulstein followed closely the hull arrival of the polar expedition cruise vessel, said a press release from the shipyard situated in Ulstein Group's primary base of operations, Ulsteinvik.National Geographic Endurance is the first X-BOW polar vessel to be built at the yard. The Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic vessel will now undergo comprehensive outfitting work.The hull will be transferred to the yard’s dock hall, where insulation work and electrical installations will commence.

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings signed an agreement with Norway's Ulstein to build a new polar vessel, expanding the line’s National Geographic polar fleet to four ships. The ship is the next phase of Lindblad’s fleet expansion following the launches of new builds National Geographic Quest in July 2017, National Geographic Venture in December 2018 and the scheduled delivery of National Geographic Endurance in Q1 2020.The new ship is scheduled for delivery in Q3 2021. Ulstein Bags Polar Expedition Vessel Order

First polar newbuild ordered for the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet. Jensen Maritime wins Design & Engineering Contract for U.S. Cruise Ships

Jensen Maritime was recently selected to provide detailed design and production engineering services for two, 100 passenger, U.S. flagged, coastal cruise ships for Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc. The twin screw diesel ships, will be built at the Washington state shipyard of Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) and have planned delivery dates of second quarter 2017 and 2018. Once complete, the $94.8 million duo will operate tours between Baja, Costa Rica and Panama during the winter months and southeast Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Canada during the summer months. For this project, Jensen will utilize its innovative 3D modeling capabilities to allow Lindblad the unique opportunity to confirm the vessel’s layout, maintenance envelopes and operational access prior to construction.
