CBED's Wind Innovation SOV Extends Stay at German Wind Farm Project

Offshore accommodation company CBED has won a contract extension for its Wind Innovation service operations vessel Wind Innovation.Back in May, the company secured a contract for the vessel at the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms in the German North Sea.Now, the extension has been secured with the wind farm owner, a joint venture between Vattenfall Europe Windkraft GmbH and Stadtwerke München GmbH Vattenfall, securing full activity for the SOV, Wind Innovation, from Q1 to Q4 2023.

MPI Adventure Installs first Offshore Wind turbine on Sandbank

Wind Turbine Installation Vessel MPI Adventure installed the first of 72 SWT-4.0-130 offshore wind turbines on the Sandbank offshore wind farm. MPI Adventure is capable of installing 6 of these complete offshore wind turbines per cycle. After MPI Adventure completed its contract to assist with the commissioning of the offshore substation on the Sandbank offshore wind farm, she has re-mobilized for the offshore wind turbine installation works. On July 28th, well in advance of its original schedule, the vessel now completed the installation of the first turbine. MPI was responsible for the design, engineering and manufacturing of the sea fastenings which will be used during the transportation and installation of all the above mentioned turbines.

MPI Adventure Wins Sandbank OSS Commissioning Work

Vroon subsidiary MPI Adventure has been contracted to assist with the commissioning works on the offshore substation of the Sandbank Offshore Wind Farm. MPI Adventure will provide accommodation services, lifting operations and provision of supplies.   The Sandbank Offshore Wind Farm is located approximately 90 kilometers west of the island of Sylt in the German Bight. It will consist of 72 4-megawatt turbines which will also be installed by MPI Adventure as of summer 2016.

CWind Supports Ballast Nedam at Butendiek OWF

CWind, a provider of integrated services to the wind industry, announced today that it is providing corrosion protection services to Ballast Nedam at Butendiek Offshore Wind Farm (OWF). The service, which extends to all WTG foundations, commenced in May and is expected to complete in August.   Butendiek OWF, located 35 nautical miles west of the island of Sylt in the North Sea, comprises 80 turbines with 3.6 MW capacity each, resulting in a total capacity of 288 MW once fully operational. Butendiek OWF owner, WPD, awarded Ballast Nedam the contract to supply, transport and install monopiles and transition pieces in 2013.

L-3 SAM to Supply Electrical Package for DanTysk Wind Project

L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that together with its associated L-3 companies, it has been awarded a major contract for the supply and installation of the electrical system package on an accommodation platform being built in Kiel, Germany, by Nobiskrug of Rendsburg as part of the DanTysk offshore wind farm project jointly developed by Stadtwerke München (SWM) and Vattenfall. The accommodation platform for the new wind farm is designed to permanently support O&M personnel for DanTysk with fully equipped individual living quarters that will include general communal and leisure areas…

Siemens Installs First North Sea Platform

Siemens has installed the HelWin1 offshore platform in the North Sea, marking the completion of a stage in German grid connection projects. HelWin1 will link the two offshore wind farms Nordsee Ost and Meerwind to the mainland. Using the Siemens technology installed on the platform, the alternating current power generated by the wind turbines is transformed into low-loss direct current for transmission onto land. Starting next year, this will enable the network operator and purchaser TenneT to supply clean electricity to more than 500,000 German households on the mainland.

Siemens to Supply Eighty N. Sea Wind Turbines

Siemens contracted by Germany's wpd group to supply & install 80 wind turbines for the Butendiek offshore wind power plant. The agreement also covers a long-term maintenance contract for a period of ten years, the first of its kind for an offshore wind project. Siemens is to provide a new logistics concept that includes a service operation vessel specially developed for deployments to offshore wind facilities. Greenfield Fund Takes Stake in German Wind Farm

The Marguerite Fund has acquired a 22.5% stake in the German greenfield Butendiek offshore wind farm. The Butendiek project is a 288 MW greenfield offshore wind farm located in the North-Sea in the German exclusive economic zone, 32 km west of the German Island of Sylt, and consisting of 80 Siemens 3.6 MW wind turbines. The start of the offshore construction works is scheduled for Spring 2014 and installation of the wind turbines is planned to take place between Autumn 2014 and Summer 2015. When commissioned the wind farm will produce 1,290 GWh p.a., enough to supply the equivalent of some 370,000 households with electricity each year. The cost of the project is estimated to be €1.3bn.

The first steel blank cut has been made at Nordic's Warnemünde shipyard on the largest offshore transformer platform of its type currently under construction worldwide. Wind Farm transformer platform SylWin alpha will be installed west of Sylt to provide the grid connection for DanTysk and Butendiek offshore
wind farms. In accord with the date announced at the contract signing in February this year, the first steel blank cut was made in the presence of representatives of the client, Siemens Energy, and the end customer, TenneT, at the Rostock-Warnemünde yard.

VLCC Market Skyrockets In Middle East

The VLCC market has taken off in the Middle East Gulf, following the announcement of the December loading program, but rates remain steady, brokers said on Tuesday. Four VLCC cargoes were fixed by SK Corp for discharge in South Korea between the 19th and 26th of December. At $2.30 per barrel, the fixtures were cheaper than LG's fixture of the Front Tobago at W170 ($0.14) or Hyundai's fixture of the Sylt at W175 ($0.15). Seven VLCCs from the Tankers International pool were also fixed for Middle East cargoes to South Korea by unknown charterers. Tankers International is the world's biggest VLCC operator, controlling an estimated quarter of the modern fleet.
