Chart Tile Service to Aid Charts Update

NOAA Coast Survey gives commercial navigation systems better tool to receive updated nautical charts. Accessing up-to-date nautical charts on electronic systems and mobile apps is about to get easier, as developers start adopting NOAA Coast Survey's new Chart Tile Service prototype. Navigational chart users should not notice any difference in how their charting systems operate - except that service providers will be able to quickly update the charts with hundreds of corrections applied weekly by NOAA, so users will have the corrected versions faster than ever before. Coast Survey released the NOAA prototype chart tile and metadata service on December 7.

DNV GL's Walk to Work Guidelines for Offshore Personnel

Offshore facility operators can now consider an alternative and more cost-effective means to transfer personnel to and from their facilities, which is safe, efficient and regulatory compliant. An industry guideline, which is issued today, is the culmination of a joint industry project (JIP), led by DNV GL to facilitate in helping those involved develop Walk to Work (W2W) solutions and understand the important aspects required during its selection and implementation. W2W manning of offshore facilities is an alternative to the traditional means of transfer such as by helicopter, basket transfer or boat landing. First Vessel 'Plugs In' to New Hueneme Power System

The Port commissioned the Hamburg Sud’s M/V Cap Palmerston, carrying fresh fruit for Chiquita Brands of Charlotte, North Carolina during a ribbon cutting ceremony to introduce the Port of Hueneme’s recently installed Grid-Based Shore Power system. Community leaders were on hand to view this first vessel ‘plug in’. The initial test of ‘plugging in’ a vessel is critical to assessing the performance of this new and very high voltage shore power system. It is also vital to ensuring all trained units including ILWU and ship operators become comfortable with operating the gear.

The Port informs that it has conducted its first operational and safety vessel test of its recently installed Auxiliary Maritime Power (AMP) system. Port crews were on hand to view this first vessel ‘plug in’ by Hamburg Sud’s 'M/V Cap Pasley', carrying fresh fruit for Chiquita Brands of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Port of Hueneme explains that the initial test of ‘plugging in’ a vessel is critical to assessing performance of this new and very high voltage shore power system.

Port of Hueneme Tests Grid-Based Shore Power

The Port of Hueneme conducted its first operational and safety vessel test of its recently installed Grid-Based Shore Power system. Port crews were on hand to view this first vessel ‘plug in’ by Hamburg Sud’s M/V Cap Pasley, carrying fresh fruit for Chiquita Brands of Charlotte, North Carolina. The initial test of ‘plugging in’ a vessel is critical to the assessing performance of this new and very high voltage shore power system. It is also vital to ensuring all trained units including ILWU and ship operators become comfortable with operating the gear. The process tests the vessel’s ability to synchronize with and connect to the Port’s grid-based system.

The sophisticated SPx Simulator software builds on Cambridge Pixel’s established SPx radar processing library to provide a flexible tool for system developers allowing multi-radar simulations or scenarios to be constructed including terrain effects, primary radar targets, secondary targets (AIS, IFF, ADS-B) and navigation data. The output of the simulator is a network stream of one or more primary videos in either SPx or Asterix formats, along with synchronised AIS tracks, primary tracks and NMEA 0183 navigation data. Stiletto Maritime Demonstration Program hosts Capability Demonstration

The Stiletto Maritime Demonstration Program conducted its first Capability Demonstration, Jan. 14-27. The initial demonstration was hosted for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) off the Virginia coast near the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Va. The Capability Demonstration provided NECC Sailors an opportunity to observe new technologies developed by industry in a realistic military maritime environment. Stiletto Craft Trials Assessed by NECC

The Stiletto Maritime Demonstration Program has conducted its first capability demonstration for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). The Stiletto is a unique, maritime demonstration craft developed by the Defense Department to test littoral warfare concepts. Engineers and technicians with specialized expertise in maritime technology from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock's Norfolk detachment maintain and operate the 88-foot-long, composite-bodied, m-shaped vessel.
