Solstad Offshore Signs Up for Inmarsat Fleet LTE for its North Sea Vessels

The Norwegian offshore vessel owner Solstad Offshore has signed a deal with Inmarsat for its new Fleet LTE service, which will cover the connectivity needs of multiple Solstad Offshore vessels in the North Sea.Mobile satellite communications firm Inmarsat explained that offshore vessel operators usually buy LTE and VSAT connectivity separately, using LTE when within range of shore, rigs, or wind farm networks then relying on the crew to switch manually to VSAT beyond 4G coverage limits.

Castor Marine Expands North Sea 4G Network

Castor Marine signed a reseller agreement with Tampnet, an offshore 4G LTE network operator in the North Sea, and immediately went to work for its first 4G Tampnet client: supply 4G LTE offshore connectivity to the WTW vessel Keizersborg.With this deal, Castor Marine is now an official Tampnet Activation Point, adding value to its customers’ operations. In the past, vessels supported by Castor Marine automatically switched to the VSAT connection of the company’s own network when moving outside of 4G coverage and vice versa.

Inmarsat's LTE Network to Cover Gulf of Mexico Offshore Vessels

North Sea: Inmarsat Targets OSVs

Speedcast, Tampnet Partner for GoM 4G/LTE Service

Speedcast International Limited,  provider of fully managed remote communication and IT solutions, has signed a reseller agreement with Tampnet for 4G/LTE services in the Gulf of Mexico. The agreement marks Speedcast as the first service provider to partner with Tampnet for its high capacity offshore network in the region. Tampnet announced in March that it has reached 25 percent of its planned coverage for the Gulf of Mexico. Upon completion at the end of 2018, Tampnet will have a low latency, high capacity fiber and microwave network made up of more than 60 base stations that they estimate will cover 98 percent of all manned offshore assets. Tampnet currently owns a similarly designed offshore low-latency network in the North Sea which has been in operation since 2001.

Marlink and Tampnet have signed a partner agreement for the delivery of offshore Long Term Evolution (LTE) based services in the North Sea. The agreement forms the foundation for Marlink to integrate low-latency 4G services into its established Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) and Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) portfolio, which today is used by Marlink equipped offshore support vessels for operational and crew communication in the North Sea. HitecVision Acquires Tampnet from Statoil

Statoil and HitecVision have signed an agreement under which HitecVision will acquire Statoil’s subsidiary Tampnet AS. Tampnet operates a large high capacity communication network between offshore installations. Established by Statoil in 2001, Tampnet has since grown to serve 34 oil and gas fields and carrying traffic for over 60 platforms operated by a multitude of oil companies.
