Meyer Turku Highlights Environmental Achievements

Meyer Turku has outlined some of the highlights of its environmental policy developments, noting that it has used only certified carbon neutral electricity since 2018. Starting from 2023, also all district heating used the shipyard has been carbon neutral.“We are lucky to partner with Turku Energia who is able to supply up-to-date electricity and heating solutions. The impact we make together is big and encourages us further with our sustainability ambitions. The Finnish Border Guard has held a keel laying ceremony for its new patrol vessel at Baltic Operator's shipyard in Gdansk.On March 12, 2024, a keel laying ceremony was arranged at Baltic Operator’s shipyard in Gdansk. Finnish Border Guard Orders Two New Vessels

Turku Shipyard Doubles the Order

Finnish shipbuilding company Meyer Turku Oy (known as the Turku shipyard) announced that the supply orders of the shipyard got almost doubled in two years."The value of supply orders to the shipyard has grown very strongly. It has almost doubled in two years (+ 84 %). The value of the supply orders was approximately EUR 933 million in 2018 when the corresponding figure in 2016 was approximately EUR 508 million," said a press release from the shipbuilder located in Turku, Finland Proper.The value of domestic supply orders of Meyer Turku increased by 64 percent to approximately EUR 638 million at the time in question. Meyer Turku Installs Tallest Crane in the Nordics

In the midst of a €185 million ($215.8 million) shipyard overhaul, Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku has unveiled its new 120-meter-tall lifting crane named Goliath. The Kone Cranes built crane has a 2,500 ton main beam and was put into use over the weekend. “This new high tech crane is an essential part of the ramp up of our production. TUI Cruise Ship Keel Laid at STX Finland

On 25 February 2014, approximately nine months after the keel laying of TUI Cruises’ first newbuilding Mein Schiff 3, TUI Cruises and STX Finland celebrated the keel laying of Mein Schiff 4 in the Turku shipyard. Following the old shipbuilding tradition, the lucky coins were placed under the keel block of the ship. In the lucky coin ceremony, held on the bottom of the drydock, the shipowner was represented by Richard J. Vogel, CEO of TUI Cruises, CFO Frank Kuhlmann, Chief Engineer of Mein Schiff 3 Kostas Kallinikos and the designated Captain of Mein Schiff 3 Kjell Holm.

STX Finland Makes Management Changes

STX Finland announced a number of management changes, citing the challenging market situation. The primary target set for STX Finland is profitable operation. In 2011 this target was achieved, and now the focus is strongly on how similar development could also be secured over the years to come. By consolidating sales and marketing into a corporate level activity, STX Finland strengthen and increase the efficiency of its strategic targets which main focuses are diversification, differentiation and customer relationship management. - Timo Suistio has been appointed EVP, CMO of STX Finland. He is tasked with enhancing the functioning capacity of sales and marketing and boosting the order book of the shipyards to ensure long-term operation of the company.

Aker Yards Integration Process Moves into Implementation Phase

Aker Yards has announced its new business model for its shipyards in business area cruise & ferries. The new business model, presented today to the management and employee representatives, is the result of a 100 days integration process in which 12 task forces in France and Finland have analyzed the two ways of doing shipbuilding. Best practices, efficient organizations and fixed costs were reviewed and compared. This process resulted in about 150 initiatives to be implemented over the next three years worth in the magnitude of 100 million euro in savings, among which some 40 million for Finland.
