Coralius Completes 1st Bunkering in Rotterdam

Tarbit Shipping, Martech Systems Pact to Implement SERTICA

Swedish tanker company Tarbit Shipping has signed a deal with Martech Systems to manage data structuring and implementation of the SERTICA software package from Logimatic on two ships under construction at a shipyard in Turkey. Earlier this year, Logimatic secured Martech Systems as an implementation partner for SERTICA. Martech Systems offers services such as data structuring, data implementation, data collecting and data entry, and crew training for SERTICA. Martech Systems will complete an implementation of SERTICA on the two ships being built at a shipyard in Turkey. Hans Chr. The Switch's PM Shaft Generator for LNG Vessel

The Switch, a specialist of megawatt-class permanent magnet (PM) machines for advanced marine drive trains, has been selected to deliver its PM shaft generator for an LNG carrier with a 45,000 cubic meter cargo capacity, allowing the vessel to gain greater efficiency over its entire speed range. This order is part of a complete energy efficiency system being delivered by WE Tech Solutions (WE Tech) of Finland to Saga LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. The vessel will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. Earlier this year, The Switch received a PM shaft generator order with an option of one more from the energy-efficient solution provider WE Tech for an LNG carrier owned by Saga LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in October 2016.

Alternative to Diesel Strengthens as Barriers Continue to Fall. From the earliest days of mechanically propelled ships, fuel use has been evolving. Starting with wood, fuel changed to coal, which held sway for many years. Oil began to be used in the late nineteenth century and was clearly the dominate marine fuel of the twentieth century. Environmental shortcomings of fuel oil, particularly traditional heavy bunkers, were brought under increasing scrutiny as the twentieth century came to a close.

GL Verifies Product Tanker for Clean Shipping Index

GL issued the vessel with a Statement of Compliance confirming that the data submitted by owner Tarbit Shipping meets the requirements of the Index, an essential step for ensuring the usefulness and transparency of the data provided for the new project. GL was authorised to perform verification checks for the CSI in March and shortly thereafter undertook the verification of the Bit Viking. "The CSI is an important step in the growing process whereby the shipping industry moves to reduce its impact on the environment.

World's First LNG Fueled Product Tanker

The Bit Viking is reportedly the world's first vessel in service whose main machinery has been converted to burn LNG as fuel. She is also the largest commercial vessel which is not an LNG tanker, to use LNG as fuel. After the conversion which was undertaken under the supervision of classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL), the 25,000 dwt product tanker successfully completed sea trials. Wärtsilä, Tarbit to Convert Tanker to LNG Ops

Wärtsilä has signed a turnkey contract with Tarbit Shipping of Sweden to convert a product tanker to LNG propulsion, and to supply the ship with a Wärtsilä LNGPac system for the safe and convenient storage of LNG onboard. This is the first order for a Wärtsilä LNGPac system. The 25,000 dwt product tanker 'Bit Viking' is operated by Statoil along the Norwegian coastline, and the conversion will enable the vessel to qualify for lower NOX emission taxes under the Norwegian government's NOX fund scheme.

Vopak To Sell Bitumen Fleet

Dutch-based chemical distribution and storage company Vopak NV said it signed a memorandum of understanding to sell its bitumen fleet to Swedish Tarbit Shipping AB. No financial details of the planned sale were released. Vopak had earlier said the bitumen fleet member Theodora Tanker no longer fitted with its strategy. Earlier this year Vopak sold one-third of its 30 percent stake in unit Heavy Transport Group to unlisted Dutch partner Heerema. Vopak was formed in November 1999 through the merger of Dutch sector peers Van Ommeren and Pakhoed NV. - (Reuters)
