Lankhorst Wins Big Spar Mooring Contract

Offshore rope manufacturer Lankhorst Ropes has been awarded a contract by Hyundai Heavy Industries and Technip USA consortium (HHITECH) to supply the mooring lines for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen Spar platform to be located in the Norwegian sector of the Norwegian Sea. According to Lankhorst, it is the largest single order for deepwater mooring ropes, and believed to be the largest ever order in the global synthetic fiber rope industry. Ingalls Appoints Mathieu as VP and GM of Avondale

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that René Mathieu has been named vice president and general manager, Avondale Industries Inc., effective May 20. He is responsible for all non-Navy aspects of HII's energy infrastructure business in Avondale, La., including production operations, human resources, business management, engineering and design, facilities management and fabrication. Mathieu will work in Avondale and at Avondale's business development office in Houston. He will report directly to Chris Kastner, HII's corporate vice president and general manager, corporate development.

First Subsea Wins Technip Connector contract

First Subsea Awarded Lucius Spar Mooring Connector Contract. Deepwater mooring specialist, First Subsea Ltd has been awarded a contract by Technip USA Inc to supply the mooring line connectors for a new spar platform moored in 7,000ft (2,134 m) of water in the Lucius field, Keathley Canyon block 875 in the Gulf of Mexico. The Lucius spar will be moored by nine Ballgrab ball and taper mooring connectors attached to polyester mooring lines. The Ballgrab connector comprises a male connector and female receptacle. The Series III male connectors will comply with the new ABS Mooring Guide 2009.

Jumbo, Technip Installation in 8,200 ft of Water

Technip USA, supported by its contractor Jumbo Offshore have completed the installation of five free standing hybrid risers (FSHR’s) for the Petrobras America Inc. Cascade & Chinook ultra-deepwater project in the Gulf of Mexico. Transportation of the five buoyancy cans was handled by Jumbo’s Fairplayer. Installation, lead by Technip, was engineered and executed in smooth and successful collaboration. Technip’s construction vessels Deep Blue and Deep Pioneer, together with the Fairplayer, installed the buoyancy cans and risers in winter conditions and with zero HSE recordable.

Jumbo Offshore Contract From Technip USA

Jumbo Offshore v.o.f has been awarded a combined transportation and installation contract by Technip USA in connection with the Cascade and Chinook fields in the Gulf of Mexico. Jumbo will support Technip USA by providing expertise in heavy lift and transportation during the engineering, transportation and installation phases. •    Jumbo’s heavy lift vessel Fairplayer will assist Technip’s deepwater pipelay construction vessel Deep Blue with the installation of five Buoyancy Cans and Free Standing Hybrid Risers (FSHRs).

Technip Signs Contract With ExxonMobil Global

Technip USA Corporation has signed a multi-year contract with ExxonMobil Global Services to provide front-end engineering services. Technip will provide engineering services to ExxonMobil’s Baytown refinery and chemical plants as ExxonMobil implements its programs to significantly reduce its NOx emissions and contributes to the Houston-Galveston-area efforts to attain air quality standards. Technip USA Announces Contract Award for the Freeport LNG Terminal

Freeport LNG Development, L.P. and Technip USA Corporation, a subsidiary of Technip have signed a contract for the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) leading to the finalization of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract for its LNG receiving terminal to be located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas. The FEED is expected to be completed by the end of December with the EPC phase of the project beginning in the first quarter of 2004. Michael Smith, CEO of Freeport LNG Development, L.P., said, "Technip has considerable experience in LNG facility design and this contract continues the relationship established with Technip during their assistance in the preparation of the FERC filing documents for our terminal.

118-ft. Yacht Designed to Travel to 70 Knots

Three Vericor Power Systems' TF50 marine aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected to power the 118 Wallypower high-speed yacht being built by Intermarine Shipyard, Sarzana, Italy for Wally Yacht. This is Wally Yacht's first foray into high-speed power yachts, and the company's initial application of gas turbines. Wally Yacht, based in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is a world-renowned designer of high-speed sailing and power yachts. The 118-ft. yacht will feature three TF50 gas turbines in a Combined Diesel Or Gas (CODOG) turbine configuration. Two TF50s will be used as side or "wing" engines, with one small auxiliary diesel engine connected to each wing engine. The diesels will provide for very slow maneuvering only.

InterMoor Names Hardin VP

InterMoor Inc., an Acteon company, has named Don Hardin Vice President of Projects and Engineering. Based at InterMoor’s Houston office, Hardin will be responsible for management and oversight of InterMoor’s major projects and engineering, worldwide. Hardin has more than 25 years of experience in structural engineering, offshore installation, project management and general marine operations. He has also been involved with research, development and implementation of new mooring technology. Prior to InterMoor, Hardin worked as Project Manager for Technip USA. Candela Joins Paragon

Nick Candela, a Project Management Professional (PMP), has joined Paragon Engineering Services, Inc., of Houston as manager of Project Controls, responsible for staffing project controls personnel on Paragon projects both in Houston and worldwide. Candela’s immediate role involves enhancing Paragon’s project controls systems through the development of standards and procedures for planning, scheduling, cost control, progress measurement and change management. Candela also is developing corresponding training programs for project managers, lead engineers and project controls personnel in these essential functions.
