Making Hydrogen Work: Demo Project in San Francisco Port
Hornblower Energy LLC, in partnership with the Port of San Franciso, the U.S. Department of Energy and six corporate partners, including Air Liquide and Glosten, is leading a project to demonstrate the feasibility and viability of using hydrogen (H2) as a maritime fuel.The project is located at Pier 68 in San Francisco. DOE selected the project for funding in 2020. It’s supposed to be completed in 2025 but there are important decision dates before then. So far, project activities have concentrated on planning and modeling.

Austal Secures Navy Maintenance Work
Demonstrating its growing presence in the defence and vessel support markets, Austal’s US operation has been awarded a subcontract by BAE Systems to provide structural maintenance services for “Sea Fighter” (FSF-1), a US Navy Research Vessel which is used for advanced technology demonstrations. The vessel is a 79.9 metre high-speed aluminium catamaran, designed to operate at speeds in excess of 50 knots. It is operated by Great Eastern Group for the Office of Naval Research. LCS Team Completes First Phase of Hull Test Series
The Lockheed Martin-led Littoral Combat Ship team is continuing the development of its semi-planing seaframe design through a new series of tank tests that will prove the efficacy of several significant design improvements. The scaled hull model test program underway at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division in Bethesda, MD, will validate the improvements in the resistance, stability and sea keeping characteristics of the team's design. Working closely with naval architect Gibbs & Cox, and core team member Fincantieri, the Lockheed Martin team will optimize the LCS hull design that has already proven its capabilities in high-speed commercial service and in other technology demonstrations.
