Kelvin Hughes bags Marseille VTS Radar Contract
Kelvin Hughes has been awarded the contract for the second phase of a radar system installation by the Port of Marseille Fos in Southern France. The Enfield-based company supplied five SBS-700 radar systems earlier this year that were integrated with the port's Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS). The second phase has seen two more, identical models installed and commissioned at the port in July. Kelvin Hughes' SBS-700 radar system is specifically designed to meet the requirements of a Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) system as defined in IALA recommendation V-128.

IHC Merwede has secured orders worth âŹ350 million for a wide range of dredging and offshore vessels and equipment. The companyâs Dredging division has confirmed new contracts for the delivery of a large custom-built trailing suction hopper dredger, 13 units that will be supplied by IHC Beaver Dredgers and a cutter suction dredger training simulator. The Offshore division has also announced orders for the construction of a 300-metric-ton pipelaying vessel, as well as a J-Lay pipelaying system and a tandem mooring system.
IHC Merwede to Build Advanced Dredger for Boskalis
IHC Merwede has been contracted by Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis) for the design, construction and delivery of a 23,684kW self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) which will be one of the largest CSDs of its kind in the world. The shipbuilders say that as part of the close cooperation and working relationship between Boskalis and IHC Merwede, much attention has been paid to the design of this latest CSD in terms of safety, the environment and increased operational workability. A particular feature of the vessel is the widening of the aft ship in order to reduce the draught.

IHC Merwede has revealed a healthy net profit margin of 4.1% in 2012 and a positive sales forecast for the year ahead. The company develops and builds vessels, equipment and life-cycle support services for the dredging, mining and offshore industries, which have been performing well â despite the global economic situation and the knock-on effect for the maritime industry. In 2012, IHC Merwede reached a revenue of âŹ895 million and a net profit of âŹ37 million. After the exceptional years of 2010 and 2011, the revenue and profitability were lower last year.
