Ørsted and NOAA Ink Data Sharing Agreement

NOAA and offshore wind development company Ørsted have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to share physical and biological data in Ørsted-leased waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction. NOAA, said the MOA is the first of its kind with an offshore wind developer and that it anticipates Ørsted’s data will fill gaps in ocean science areas, particularly in ocean mapping and observing, to help meet NOAA missions related to climate adaptation and mitigation, weather-readiness, healthy oceans, and resilient coastal communities and economies.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Inks Deal with CADMATIC

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Finnish software firm CADMATIC signed a technical cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of next-generation design systems.Through the MOU signed in April, the two companies will carry out cooperation while maintaining the technology partnership to develop next-generation design systems that will be applied to the latest technologies, such as AI, Big Data analysis, advanced modeling and drawing automation.

Simec Inks Technology Partnership with GE

MPA to Enhance Singapore’s Hub Port Competitiveness

The maritime sector is undergoing significant transformation. To enhance Singapore’s hub port competitiveness, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is leveraging technology to help maritime companies innovate and move into new growth areas. MPA will be establishing the MPA Living Lab, and working with partners to set up three Centres of Excellence to deepen maritime R&D competencies. Cochin Shipyard in Pact with Samsung Heavy Industries

India's state-owned Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korean firm Samsung Heavy Industries for technology partnership in constructing liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrying vessels, reports local media. “Cochin Shipyard has signed an agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries to collaborate on building LNG ships,” a shipping ministry official said. The MoU, which was inked after protracted negotiations will enable the city-based public sector yard to respond to a tender for LNG carrier construction soon-to-be-re-issued by GAIL (India). An earlier tender issued by GAIL (India) in this regard was cancelled in February this year after it failed to elicit any response.

Teesport Upgrades to C-Scope

Teesport, recognized as the first port in the world to be fitted with a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) system, will upgrade to C-Scope, the next generation maritime surveillance system from Kongsberg Norcontrol IT. “The relationship between Kongsberg Norcontrol IT and Teesport is the longest running technology partnership in our history,” said Steve Guest, General Manager for Kongsberg Norcontrol IT’s UK office. Located five kilometers east of Middlesbrough on the River Tees, Teesport is one of the United Kingdom’s major ports and one of the largest ports in Western Europe. Owned by PD Ports, it handles both international and domestic cargo in excess of 38 million tons per year.

Statoil, Siemens Ink Tech Partnership

Statoil and Siemens signed a technology development cooperation agreement. ONR Science and Technology Partnership Conference Draws 1,300

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) announced Aug. 12 that more than 1,300 science and technology (S&T) industry professionals gathered to engage with ONR's principal S&T decision makers at the 2008 Naval S&T Partnership Conference. The partnership conference is offering members of the science and technology industry the unique opportunity to network with like-minded professionals from a wide range of organizations and disciplines committed to the exploration and discovery of new and promising innovations. Statoil and Petrobas to Collaborate

Statoil and the Brazilian oil company Petrobras have signed a long-term strategic collaboration agreement for exploration and production as well as biofuels. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in Oslo on September 14 by Helge Lund and José Sergio Gabrielli de Azevedo, chief executives of Statoil and Petrobras respectively. The companies already have several partnership agreements within exploration and production in Brazil, Angola, Nigeria and the Gulf of Mexico. The partners also formed a technology partnership in 2003 that includes drilling, exploration and subsea operations. The new collaboration involves both companies studying several oil and gas business development opportunities, in Brazil and internationally.

Trimaran RV Triton visits Washington Navy Yard

A technology partnership between the United States and United Kingdom brought the trimaran research vessel RV Triton to the Washington Navy Yard for a week beginning June 3. Measuring 295 ft. (90 m), the three-hulled ship is the largest motor-powered trimaran ever built, and faster than conventional warships. Together, the U.S. Navy and Royal Navy are testing trimaran concepts using the British research vessel RV Triton. The U.K. designed and built the ship and the U.S. has provided the latest an on-board monitoring technology. The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has installed this on-board laboratory, called the Trials Instrumentation System (TIS), which monitors and records ship performance. who detailed the design and many of RV Triton's new initiatives.
