The Norwegean global maritime industry group Wilh. The Trump administration this week will unveil the list of Chinese imports targeted for U.S. tariffs to punish Beijing over technology transfer policies, a move expected to intensify trade tensions between the world's two largest economies. The list of $50 billion to $60 billion worth of annual imports is expected to target "largely high-technology" products and it may be more than two months before tariffs take effect, administration officials have said. The U.S. Trade Representative's office needs to unveil the list of products by Friday under President Donald Trump's China tariff proclamation signed on March 22. The tariffs are aimed at forcing changes to Chinese government policies that USTR says results in the "uneconomic" transfer of U.S. intellectual property to Chinese companies.

Coldharbour Marine, developer of a unique in-tank, in-voyage and inert gas-based ballast water treatment system for large tankers, bulkers and LNG vessels, has signed an agreement with Hansun (Shanghai) Marine Technology Co Ltd covering the marketing and distribution of Coldharbour products in mainland China. The contract, finalized at a recent ceremony in Shanghai, is part of the companies’ joint preparations for the IMO’s Ballast Water Convention which enters into force on September 8 this year.

Rolls-Royce has announced the latest stage in its research and development plans to make remote and autonomous shipping a reality and reap the benefits of increasing digitalization in the marine industry. The company said it is looking to develop partnerships and opportunities with other organizations around the world to, create the capability, competencies and jobs to supply the technology and components required. Vessel Technology has announced the launch of a new product, the DPSS Net. The new DPSS Net product aims to allow customers to reduce operating costs, time and risk associated with Dynamic Positioning operations. The PPG protective and marine coatings business is introducing and highlight the new PHENGUARD Subsea coating system. The new product combination of PHENGUARD Subsea 610 coating and PHENGUARD Subsea 780 coating is an ideal two-coat subsea system with high-temperature resistance up to 180 C (356 F) for surfaces with or without insulation. “The subsea market is one of the most innovative sectors within the offshore industry, with state-of-the art technologies used for subsea projects worldwide," said Marcel de Haan, PPG global product specialist for subsea coatings. At elevated temperatures, he said, there is a possibility of having a temperature gradient over the coating, which can make coating systems behave differently than in standard conditions.

Since then this organization, and the system of transparent, multilaterally-agreed rules that it embodies, has made a major contribution to the strength and stability of the global economy. Over the years the WTO has helped to boost trade growth, resolve numerous trade disputes and support developing countries to integrate into the trading system. It has also provided a bulwark against protectionism, the value of which was made plain in the trade policy response to the 2008 crisis, which was very calm and restrained in contrast to the protectionist panic that followed previous crises.

Technip announces an investment over four years to modernize its flexible pipe manufacturing plant, Flexi France, in Le Trait, France. Further strengthening Technip’s expertise and industrial capabilities at the site will reinforce its global position in the production of flexible pipes, for the development of offshore oil and gas fields. This modernization plan focuses on the installation of new-generation machines and site optimization to fit 12 meter diameter reels, on which flexible pipes are spooled. Increasing the reel capacity from 9.6 to 12 meters in diameter will provide room for twice as much flexible pipes on each reel. Technip's investment will also create a new area dedicated to the testing of the world’s most sophisticated flexible pipes.

As part of the contract, General Dynamics will deliver up to 1,000 Samsung KNOX™-enabled Galaxy S® 4 smartphones provisioned with added GD Protected® software for the U.S. government. With these new smartphones, authorized government personnel will be able to make secure phone calls and access classified email. The GD Protected Samsung KNOX smartphones represent an important step toward the government’s Commercial Solutions for Classified initiative. “Mobile government workers now have the freedom to read classified emails and talk securely anywhere, every time,” said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems.
