3t Energy Buys Petrofac's UK Training Business

UK-based 3t Energy Group has agreed to buy oilfield services giant Petrofac's UK training business.The purchase includes Petrofac’s Survival and Marine, Health and Safety, Fire, and Major Emergency Management capability and facilities in Scotland. The value of the acquisition is undisclosed.3t Energy said the acquisition would expand its offering into marine & major emergency management training markets. ABS Surpasses 200 Million Gross Tons

ABS announced that its registered fleet has surpassed 200 million gross tons. Approximately 12,000 vessels representing 105 flag States currently are registered with ABS. "This important milestone reflects our commitment to providing best-in-class service to the marine and offshore industries," said ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. Since 2000, ABS has doubled the tonnage of its registered fleet; a key factor in the expansion has been the society's leadership position in the new vessel orderbook. More than 21% of new vessels on order are set for ABS class, which is the largest percentage of any classification society in the world.

HII President Addresses BEYA STEM Conference

Huntington Ingalls Industries' President & CEO Mike Petters keynote speaker at 27th Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Conference. Petters spoke at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Engineering Deans' Power Breakfast, held recently in Washington, DC, which honors leaders in the STEM fields. BEYA is the nation's largest annual gathering of STEM professionals and leaders committed to increasing the percentage of underrepresented communities in the technology workforce.

NSRP Solicits White Papers

The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) has issued a solicitation for panel white papers. Additionally, the Panel Project Guide, which contains details on the white paper review and selection process, contracting requirements  and formatting guidelines, has been updated to correspond with this solicitation. The deadline for Panel Chairs to submit to SCRA those white papers which have been reviewed and selected by their respective panels is Friday, January 27, 2012. NOTE: deadlines for proposers to submit white papers to Panel Chairs vary -- contact the appropriate panel (listed below) or the NSRP Program Office for further information. The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center:

The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center, headquartered at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California, is a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded partnership of organizations concerned with marine science and technology education. The MATE Center coordinates and facilitates the development of educational programs in marine science and technology involving grades 9-16, with an emphasis on community colleges. In the Monterey Bay region, MATE and Monterey Peninsula College have developed a new Marine Science and Technology Associate Degree and Certificate Program that begins this Fall 1999 semester with courses geared to prepare students for careers in marine science and technology.
