KOTUG Australia and Teekay Shipping Australia Pty Ltd. have reached a deal to reshape KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd. (KTM) from a 50/50 joint venture to a full subsidiary of the KOTUG group. KTM was incorporated in 2012 to serve the Australian towage market. Now, after several years of working with KOTUG to establish this business, Teekay will exit KTM to focus on its Australian ship management, crewing and consultancy businesses. The deal received unanimous approval from the boards of both parent companies and was executed in the first week of April 2018.

FLNG deal-making has been sporadic since Woodside Petroleum at the end of 2013 delayed a final investment decision for the giant Browse FLNG project off Northwest Australia. The previous year had seen go-aheads for most of the floating liquefied natural gas projects (FLNG) underway today, including Shell’s Prelude FLNG — Woodside’s choice, it seems, of a liquefaction solution for fields 200 kilometers offshore. A steel cutting ceremony held last week at the Singapore shipyard of partner company, ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd. marked the start of construction for the first of three infield support vessels (ISVs) being constructed by Perth-based KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd to support Shell’s Prelude FLNG project near Broome. Tugboat workers at Australia's biggest iron ore port have approved a plan to go on strike, which would halt a quarter of the world's iron ore exports, if they are unable to resolve a dispute over leave and pay, their union said on Monday. Deckhands in the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) voted to strike for one, two or seven days, but remain in talks with tugboat operator Teekay Shipping Australia to resolve the dispute, the union said. Shell Australia has awarded a major contract for the design, construction and operation of three Infield Support Vessels (ISVs), which will create approximately 80 local jobs and support its Prelude FLNG Project, located 475km north-north east of Broome, in Western Australia. Perth-based KT Maritime Services Australia Pty Ltd, a joint venture partnership with KOTUG International B.V and Teekay Shipping Australia Pty Ltd, will supply three 42-meter, 100-metric-ton bollard-pull vessels to assist in product offloading during the operations phase of the project.

At the end of 2013, the team of Sembawang Shipyard of Singapore and Teekay Shipping Australia will hand over the new scientific Research Vessel Investigator to her owners, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), an agency of the Federal Government of Australia. Teekay Shipping Australia boosts towage services in Port Hedland to meet growing throughput at Australia’s busiest port. The 80+ tonne bollard pull tugs 'RT Rotation', 'RT Sensation' and 'RT Inspiration', supplied under contract from KOTUG International, will join three powerful Rotor®Tugs already operating in the port, which the mining industry now regards as the busiest in Australia. The Port Hedland Port Authority is forecasting an increase in throughput results from 247 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2012, to nearly 500 mtpa by 2017.

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) & nine key members of the Australian maritime, port and energy sectors have established the four-month study. The Joint Industry Project (JIP) is to facilitate the adoption of LNG fuelled vessels in Australian waters. The use of LNG as marine fuel eliminates SOx and particulate matter emissions, nets a 15% reduction in GHG emissions and diminishes that of NOx by 85-90%, which addresses both local and global pollution issues. The study aims to cover the infrastructure and regulatory requirements as well as the potential benefits and risks faced by energy majors, ports and ship-owners considering LNG fuelled vessels.
