NYK to Demonstrate Tidal Energy in Singapore

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Japanese telecom giant MTI have reached an agreement to participate in a long-term demonstration of tidal energy being sponsored by MAKO Energy and Sentosa Development Corporation, which will provide the demonstration site.The demonstration will start next spring in a first-time attempt to commercialize tidal energy in Singapore.MAKO Energy is the Singapore-based subsidiary of Elemental Energy Technologies, a tidal turbine developer that has interest and expertise in the area of renewable energy solutions, particularly tidal power and its applications. Ericsson Maritime Platform Targets Shipping Connectivity

To tap the potential of shipping industry, Ericsson launched its Maritime ICT Cloud platform designed to provide an end-to-end solution targeting connectivity and tracking needs for the maritime industry. The Swedish telecom giant Ericsson launched Maritime ICT Cloud services for the shipping industry. Maritime ICT Cloud includes a communication platform with optimized connectivity and bandwidth for different types of traffic. The "Maritime ICT Cloud”, mainly supporting logistical operations, as well as connecting vessels at sea with shore-based operations, maintenance service providers, customer support centres, fleet/transportation partners, port operations and authorities. There are also tools for voyage optimization, cargo monitoring and crew welfare.

AsiaSat And Telstra Share Networks

Australian telecom giant Telstra and Hong Kong-based Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. said on Tuesday they had established a framework for Telstra to use AsiaSat satellite capacity in Asia, including Australia. Under the agreement, Telstra has reserved four Ku-band transponders on AsiaSat 3S satellite's steerable beam, the two companies said in a statement. The high power steerable beam would be fixed over Australia to support new broadband satellite services, the statement said. A Telstra director said the agreement would boost the already significant satellite capacity available to Telstra and the Internet protocol backbone company joint venture to be established with Hong Kong's Pacific Century CyberWorks.
