Satcom Services by Telespazio, Grimaldi

European spaceflight services company Telespazio and the shipping company Grimaldi Group have recently signed two contracts to strengthen the satellite communications capabilities of the Neapolitan shipping group on its fleet of cargo and passenger ships.Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo and Thales, said in a press release that the first agreement provides for managing on-board communications for RO/RO, RO/RO multi-purpose and PCTC (Pure Car & Truck Carrier) vessels in the Grimaldi Fleet that operate between Northern Europe, North and South America, West Africa, and the Mediterranean.Specifically, Telespazio will take care of the design and supply of on-board systems for satellite communications and related broadband services, including backup, on a multi-regional scale.

MSRC CEO to Retire in April 2017

The Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC), the nation’s leading oil spill response organization, has announced that Steven T. Benz, the company’s President and CEO, will be retiring on April 30, 2017. Tim Plummer, Chair of the MSRC Board of Directors, said “We are thankful to Steve for his many years of strong leadership. During his tenure, he has solidified MSRC as the preeminent spill response organization in the nation, as demonstrated by the critical role MSRC played in the “Deepwater Horizon” response.

World-Link Acquires BSM's Telecommunications Business

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) and World-Link Communications, Inc. have reached a definitive agreement under which World-Link will acquire BSM’s telecommunication services business, Telaccount Overseas, with immediate effect. “This agreement will benefit our customers and crew by unifying communication systems’ capabilities across our fleet and we are pleased to be selling Telaccount Overseas to our longtime partner and service provider, World-Link” said Norbert Aschmann, BSM Chief Executive Officer.

MTN Satellite Communications & Wireless Maritime Services (WMS) outfits 'Carnival Breeze' with integrated voice & data communications. Services provided enable users to access information from any mobile device from anywhere on the ship while at sea. During her first month in service Carnival Breeze leveraged the telecommunications expertise of MTN and WMS to deliver a "shore-side" experience to more than 4,000 passengers and nearly 1,800 crew members on each sailing. Mercy Ships Announces Satellite Agreement For Non-Governmental Hospital Ship

Mercy Ships announced today from their corporate headquarters that they have secured a strategic alliance with Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN). MTN will provide all satellite equipment, monitoring, support, bandwidth and logistics. The hardware will be provided by MTN as part of the agreement. Having a reliable, 24/7 communications ability has long been a dream for Mercy Ships, which often sends its ships to locations where adequate communication facilities are not available. Until now, that dream has seemed out of reach. capabilities both in port, and at sea. Mobex Purchases Watercom From ACL

Mobex Communications has entered into an agreement with American Commercial Lines (ACL) for its subsidiary Waterway Communications System LLC (Watercom), which is a provider of automated ship-to-shore voice, data and telecommunication services. Headquartered in Jeffersonville, Ind., Watercom provides communications for towboats, yachts, dredges, survey vessels, cruise/dinner boats and gaming vessels in more than 20 states on the Gulf of Mexico, as well as those situated along the Mississippi, Illinois and Ohio Rivers. The agreement calls for Watercom to continue its services for ACL, and gives Mobex control of Watercom's customer base, which encompasses 80 channels in each of 33 markets, broadcasting at 217 MHz under the Automated Marine Telecommunications Service (AMTS).
