Carnival Orders 112,000-Ton Ship for Costa Cruises
Genoa-based Costa Cruises, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc announced that it has signed a letter of intent with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri Cantieri Navali S.p.A. to construct a 112,000-gross-ton cruise ship to be delivered in summer 2006. To be built at Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente shipyard, the new vessel will have an all-in cost of approximately 450 million euros. The as-yet-unnamed ship, which will encompass 1,502 staterooms with a total guest capacity of 3,800, will be the largest passenger ship in the history of Italian seafaring. Maritime Telecommunications Network to Provide Services to Thales
Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc. (MTN), a Verestar company, was awarded a contract by Thales GeoSolutions to become its provider of global telecommunications capabilities. MTN, the leader in maritime communications, entered into a three-month agreement to provide telecommunications services onboard the specialist cable survey vessel, the Baruna Jaya III. Thales GeoSolutions specializes in services and products for the offshore oil and gas, telecommunications, power and marine civil engineering industries. Thales offers a comprehensive range of integrated environmental management and monitoring services, including water quality studies and ocean current measurements.
MTN Expands with New Services
Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), announced the inclusion of three new vessels in its current contract with Global Industries for VSAT services. Currently providing VSAT services on two of Global’s vessels, MTN will now install its communications suite on three additional barges. The new vessels, the Cheyenne, the Iroquois, and the Tonkawa, will now benefit from MTN’s communications advantages along with their sister barges the Navajo and Comanche. Global Industries provides offshore construction, engineering and support services including pipeline construction, platform installation and removal, and diving services to the oil and gas industry off most of the world’s coastlines.
