TGE Marine Receives Order for LCO2 Cargo Handling System

TGE Marine has received an order from the Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore for the design and supply of a cargo handling system for a 7,500m³ liquified CO2 (LCO2) carrier.The vessel is the third iteration of the series TGE Marine has been part of for the Norwegian consortium Northern Lights JV.The ships are part of the “Longship project”, a Norwegian state-founded effort to de-carbonize large emitters in Norway. Crowley LNG Bunker Barge to Sport TGE Marine Gas Controls, Tanks

TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH (TGE Marine) inked a deal for a 12,000 cu. m. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering barge with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding for the design and supply of the cargo handling system including two 6,000 cu. m. bilobe Type C tanks designed to transport LNG at -163°C.The barge will be built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding for Crowley and operate under a long-term charter with Shell NA LNG, LLC. The 12,000 m3 barge will be the largest of its kind built in the United States so far and is expected to start operations along the US East Coast in 2024.

Svanehøj Pumps for Northern Lights CO2 Carriers

Alfa Laval Sees Growing Orders for FCM LPG Fuel Supply Systems

Alfa Laval reports it is experiencing increased demand for solutions related to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel, having seen notable orders for the Alfa Laval FCM LPG in recent months as the marine industry focuses on decarbonization. The low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) that can work seamlessly with LPG cargo handling systems.Given its lower CO2 footprint compared to traditional marine fuels, LPG is a logical step in decarbonizing the vessels that transport it, Alfa Laval said.

Imabari Launches LNG-fueled Car Carrier for 'K' Line

Imabari Shipbuilding Group's Tadotsu Shipyard in Japan has launched a new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled car carrier vessel for compatriot shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. International trade relies on transportation by sea, as about 85 percent of the freight volumes are shipped globally by vessels. But while maritime is widely regarded as the most environmentally benign of any transport system, maritime transport can cause a diverse environmental burden: It includes, beside the potential for damages and leaks, the inflow of waste water and, in particular, the emissions of air pollutants. Furthermore the improper cleaning of oil sludge, as well as the transfer of organisms into foreign ecosystems within ballast water.

World’s First MAN B&W ME-GI Enters Service

Nakilat, in association with Qatari LNG producers Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited and engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo, recently celebrated the success of the ME-GI project involving the retrofit of chartered Q-Max vessel, Rasheeda, with a gas-burning M-Type Electronically Controlled – Gas Injection (ME-GI) System, which has now been successfully commissioned. The Qatari-owned Q-Max vessel is the world’s first low-speed marine diesel engine to be converted to use LNG as a fuel. The retrofit modification meets the current known and future stated global emissions regulations. Nakilat’s Rasheeda built in 2010 is a 266,000 m3 LNG carrier with two MAN B&W S70ME-C HFO-burning engines, which have been converted to the dual-fuel ME-GI concept.

Mitsui Shipbuilding Acquires TGE Marine

Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding (MES) has bought 99.36% of the outstanding ordinary shares in German designer and manufacturer of gas tanks and gas handling systems TGE Marine AG to expand its foothold within the market for medium sized multi-gas carriers. MES acquired 1,209,489 ordinary shares in TGE from Caledonia Investments plc, Gasfin Investment S.A. and Dr. Küver GbR, the partnership belonging to the CEO of TGE, for a total consideration of approximately around JPY 22 billion (EUR 164 million). The shipbuilder will acquire the TGE ordinary shares listed above via a special purpose vehicle which will be incorporated by MES for the sole purpose of acquiring these TGE ordinary shares.

Storage Tanks Installed on World’s First FLNG

Wison Offshore & Marine reports that it successfully completed the installation of the three LNG storage tanks into the hull of the Caribbean FLNG project, considered a significant  milestone in the delivery of the world’s first floating LNG production unit. With this major activity completed, the pathway is clear for installing the barge deck and topsides on the project. The Caribbean FLNG project, being supplied to EXMAR by Wison Offshore & Marine under an EPCIC contract, will be installed off the coast of Colombia.

TGE Marine to deliver two complete environmentally friendly LNG fuel systems for the next generation of AIDA cruise ships under construction in Japan. The contract has been awarded to TGE Marine Gas Engineering by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for installation in the two new ships currently being built for Carnival subsidiary AIDA Cruises of Rostock, Germany. LNG Container Ship Design Gets GL Approval

Germanischer Lloyd presents an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate to TECHNOLOG for the IPP designed STREAM range of 3,000 TEU to 5000TEU ships. The design of the STREAM 4200 LNG’s 32.25-metre beam allows passage through the existing Panama Canal locks. A draft of 10.50m to 12.00m means the vessel can operate worldwide, including the Kiel Canal (future dimensions) between the Baltic and North Sea. The entire vessel design concept is focused around saving energy. A single screw is directly driven by a dual-fuel, two-stroke, 22.9 MW engine developed specifically for LNG applications by MAN.

Cargotec Cargo Handling for Ecore VLOC Concept

DNV has initiated a concept study together with industry partners – FKAB, MAN Diesel & Turbo, TGE Marine and Cargotec – to design a very large ore carrier (VLOC). The objective is to introduce innovative solutions that increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of bulk ship operations while at the same being both technically and economically feasible. A MacGregor self-loading system from Cargotec makes wide-beam VLOCs feasible, with accompanying efficiency and environmental benefits. An innovative MacGregor self-loading system from Cargotec is an integral element of Ecore, DNV’s 250,000 dwt sustainable ore carrier concept introduced in May at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Norway.

Ecore: A Step Change in VLOC Design

Together with FKAB, TGE Marine, Cargotec and MAN Diesel & Turbo, DNV has participated in a joint industry project to develop Ecore, a Very Large Ore Carrier concept designed to lower fuel costs and improve loading efficiency. Based on existing technology, the Ecore concept represents a step change in VLOC design. Powered by two-stroke dual fuel ME-GI engines, this concept features a more ballast friendly hull shape, a large centre cargo hold layout and introduces a highly efficient self-loading system.

MAN Diesel & Turbo has reached agreement with TGE Marine Gas Engineering, specialist in the design and construction of cargo-handling systems for cryogenic gases, regarding their future cooperation. In particular, the agreement centers on MAN Diesel & Turbo’s medium-speed, dual-fuel engines and the mutual benefits arising from a collaboration with TGE’s gas systems to offer optimum customer solutions for gas-fuelled ships. With the imminent arrival of the strict IMO NOx and SOx emission regulations, gas has potential as a solution to marine fuel requirements.
