Austal USA received the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) Excellence in Safety award during SCA’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.SCA, the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, honors companies with annual safety awards for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention. NASCO Win AEU Longshoreman Safety Award
The North America Stevedoring Company (NASCO) division (Chicago) of Quebec Stevedoring says it has received a coveted award under the American Equity Underwriters Inc. (AEU) Safety Award Program. Awarded in recognition of the best performing companies in the area of health and safety among AEU's 500 members nationwide, NASCO won in the category of companies with under 100 employees. Winners in each category are determined by the ratio of the number and severity of accidents per hours worked for each calendar year. AEU is an expert in waterfront exposures and is one of the biggest companies specializing in risk insurance for longshoremen and harbour workers in the United States.

AEU Adds Merchant Mariner to Loss Control Staff
The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) hired Jason Lake as Loss Control Manager. Jason joins the current staff of highly experienced loss control managers at AEU. His background will complement the staff of shipyard and marine cargo handling incident prevention experts at AEU. Jason graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation. After graduating from USMMA, he sailed with Maersk and Ocean Shipholding and as third mate, second mate, and then the last two years as chief mate.
