ClassNK Releases PrimeShip-HULL 2022 Software

Classification society ClassNK has released its design support system “PrimeShip-HULL 2022”. Kuosa Named CEO of NAPA

Maritime software, services and data analysis provider NAPA announced the appointment of Mikko Kuosa as Chief Executive Officer. Kuosa assumes the position from Ilmo Kuutti, who served as CEO of NAPA Group for three years. Kuutti continues as an Advisor and a member of the NAPA Board of Directors.Mikko Kuosa, who joined NAPA in 1999, holds a master’s degree in Naval Architecture from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. Since joining, Kuosa has taken on various leadership positions at NAPA.

NAPA Group Names Kuutti President

Software solution provider for ship design and operation NAPA Group (Napa Ltd.) has appointed Ilmo Kuutti as its new President. Kuutti assumes the position from Juha Heikinheimo, who served as President of NAPA Group for five and a half years. Kuutti holds a master’s degree in naval architecture from Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. He started his career in shipyards, where he undertook various roles throughout the 1980s. HHI Implements NAPA 3D Design Tool

Software and services provider NAPA has announced that Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has implemented NAPA Steel’s 3D model-based ship structural design tool across its business. NAPA Steel provides an interactive 3D structural modelling interface. Once a single flexible model is created for the whole vessel, this can be used throughout the design process, including class society rule checks, creating plan approval drawings, FE (Finite Element) model generation, weight calculation, etc. HHI actively participated in testing and developing NAPA Steel, and has now begun leveraging its potential to enhance productivity in ship structural design. Following the introduction of NAPA Steel, HHI expects the design time and man-hours to be reduced by almost 30% in ship structural design.

Entries Sought for SHIPPINGInsight Award

Entries are now being accepted for the 2015 SHIPPINGInsight Award, which will be presented at the SHIPPINGInsight Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition, Oct. 13 in Stamford, Conn. The annual award honors a ship operating company and its technology partners for the successful implementation of an innovative technology or initiative that advances the state-of-the-art in ship and fleet optimization. A panel of independent judges will review entries and select the winner. The award will be presented at a gala awards luncheon on the opening day of the conference. Award submissions should be in the form of a case study. Projects must have been completed within calendar year 2014 or 2015. The entry may be submitted by either the fleet operator or its technology suppliers.

Evergreen Line has commenced installation of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software on chartered container vessels. At the conclusion of a competitive tender process, ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software - developed by NAPA, global maritime software house and classification society ClassNK - was chosen to provide a total solution for planning, monitoring and optimizing ship operations. Enabling greater understanding of the operation of its chartered fleet to improve efficiency is the key driver behind the adoption of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN, the developer said.

31st Edition of Cruise Shipping Miami

Cruise Shipping Miami 2015 is gearing up to offer the most comprehensive and robust roster of panel discussions featuring the industry's most knowledgeable and experienced executives. The panels will be grouped under several broad themes based on industry trends during the four-day conference. The 31st edition of Cruise Shipping Miami is scheduled for March 16-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Organized by UBM Connect, thematic topics include The Geography of Cruise Tourism, Safety and Ship Operations, Market Segments and Cruise Product Development. On Tuesday morning, March 17, the conference will open with the popular State of the Industry session. Participants in that plenary session will be announced in the coming weeks. ClassNK Acquires Maritime Software House NAPA

Classification society ClassNK agreed to acquire maritime software house NAPA in a deal that the classification society said aims to improve safety and performance for the whole maritime industry. According to ClassNK, the acquisition will enhance the success and capabilities of both organizations. For ClassNK, which has worked with NAPA for nearly 10 years, the deal is a chance to expand and improve the wide range of services it offers to shipowners and shipyards, whilst also providing NAPA with the support to accelerate expansion of existing operations and access new markets.

Finland's Bore to Install ClassNK Efficiency Software

Shipping company Bore Ltd. to install ClassNK-NAPA GREEN ship efficiency software aboard their 13,625 dwt Ro-Ro vessel 'M/V Bore Song'. NAPA Wins Bourbon OSV Loading Computer Contract

Software house NAPA Group contracted to supply Bourbon with loading computers for 55 offshore support vessels (OSV's). The latest software will enable Bourbon to improve safe loading and unloading with maximum cargo intake while improving assistance to stability, longitudinal strength for operational efficiency. NAPA has begun and will continue to provide Bourbon OSVs with the most versatile and sophisticated 3D systems on the market; providing “real time” onboard loading calculations and ship stability analysis, as well as an emergency response system during loading.

Survey Shows Some Unaware of SEEMP Fuel Saving Potential

A NAPA Group survey shows SEEMP acknowledged as an industry priority, but knowledge gaps exist, smaller owners & operators lag behind. Software house for ship design and operations, NAPA Group, finds that a majority of respondents were unaware of scope of potential fuel savings the plan could trigger. The survey completed by over fifty ship owners, operators and charterers, revealed that the industry is taking responsibility for SEEMP compliance seriously and is optimistic about its benefits. However, the focus for most respondents was to ensure compliance and maintaining a business-as-usual approach, rather than implementing a SEEMP with significant potential fuel savings.

Heikinheimo New President of Napa Group

Juha Heikinheimo (54) was appointed President of Napa Group (Napa Ltd), a leading provider of software solutions for the maritime industry. The appointment takes effect on September 1, 2011. Mr Heikinheimo assumes the position from Matti Salo, who successfully served as President of Napa Group for eleven years. Mr Salo will continue as President of the subsidiary, Onboard-Napa Ltd. New CADCAM Solution

Working in cooperation, Napa Ltd and DRS Defense Solutions, LLC, Advanced Marine Technology Center (DRS DS AMTC) have created a new interface between NAPA and MAESTRO software. Interfacing these two products will increase efficiency in the early stage of ship structural design, analysis and evaluation process by allowing the designer to leverage one 3D model from start to finish within the scope of structural design and direct analysis. This will eliminate the very common practice of recreating 3D structural models to serve different activities. “This will be the most extensive finite element interface in NAPA, and it will help to shorten the overall time in structural analysis significantly,” says Tomi Holmberg, Manager at NAPA Business Unit.

Napa Group Wins Internationalization Award

Her Excellency Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, has presented the 2008 Internationalization Awards to Napa Group, Avant Tecno Oy and Sunit Oy. The Feb. 19 ceremony was the 41nd in the history of the award. The objective of the Internationalization Awards, which are coordinated by Finpro, is to help businesses to operate in an international environment and to boost their ability to develop and adopt new operating models. The Award can be presented to a company or community that has actively participated in developing international Finland. The preparatory work and the choosing of the candidates for the Awards is done by Finpro in collaboration with the Association for Finnish Work. The Awards are donated by The Finnish Fair Corporation.
