Second LNG-fueled Containership Delivered to Pasha Hawaii

Hawaii-based Pasha Hawaii announced it has taken delivery of the second of two new ‘Ohana Class, 774-foot liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered containerships built at the Keppel AmFELS shipyard in Brownsville, Texas.The new vessel, Janet Marie, joins Pasha Hawaii’s fleet serving the Hawaii/U.S. mainland trade lane, following the company’s first ‘Ohana Class vessel, George III, which entered service on August 17, 2022.Operating on LNG from day one, the new Jones Act vessel surpasses the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2030 emission standards for ocean vessels.

Operating on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from day one in service, the MV George III, the first of Pasha Group’s two new ‘Ohana Class’, Jones Act-qualified containerships, features a state-of-the-art engine, an optimized hull form, and an underwater propulsion system with a high-efficiency rudder and propeller. George III is the first LNG-powered vessel to fuel on the West Coast and the first to serve Hawaii. The 774-ft. Jones Act vessel surpasses the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2030 emission standards for ocean vessels.

President Joe Biden on Monday signed an executive order aiming to use government spending to strengthen domestic manufacturing and create markets for new technologies, in a move widely praised by America's maritime industry.The executive order, titled Strengthening "Buy American" Provisions, Ensuring Future of America is Made in America by All of America’s Workers", calls for increasing the amount of U.S. content that must be in a product for it to be considered made in America under existing "Buy American" requirements.

Keel Laying for Ohana Class Containerships

The ceremonial keel laying for M/V George III and the cutting of the first steel plates for M/V Janet Marie - two Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled containerships  was held t at Brownsville, TX-based Keppel AmFELS.Upon completion, both 774-foot U.S. Jones Act vessels will join Pasha Hawaii’s fleet, serving the Hawaii/Mainland trade lane.Delivery of the ‘Ohana Class vessels—named in honor of the late parents of The Pasha Group President and CEO George Pasha, IV—is expected in 2020.“Construction of the new vessels continues to progress on schedule,” said George Pasha, IV. “These LNG-powered containerships were designed to support the needs of shippers in the Hawaii trade lane, while minimizing environmental impact in the communities we serve.

MAN to Deliver Propulsion for Pasha’s LNG Containerships

MAN Energy Solutions said it has won an order to provide the propulsion systems for two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled containership newbuildings, which will join the fleet of Pasha Hawaii, the U.S. Jones Act carrier in the Hawaii trade lane.Each system will comprise a 7S80ME-GI Mk 9.5 main engine, three MAN 6L35/44DF GenSets and an MAN Alpha FPP propeller system. Hawaii Stevedores Commits Kapalama Container Terminal

Honolulu-based Hawaii Stevedores, Inc. has received confirmation from Hawaii State Department of Transportation (HDOT) that, together with the state, Hawaii Stevedores will continue the joint development of the Kapalama Container Terminal (KCT). The state has confirmed its commitment for Hawaii Stevedores to lease the new 84-acre, state-of-the-art KCT, which will be constructed at the former Kapalama Military Reserve Terminal at Sand Island in Honolulu, as part of the state’s $448 million harbors modernization plan. “KCT is a shining example of a public/private investment partnership,” said George Pasha, IV, President and CEO, The Pasha Group, which owns Hawaii Stevedores.

Keppel AmFELS to Build Two LNG Fueled Containerships

Keppel AmFELS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M) in the United States (US), has secured a contract worth more than US$400m from Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii for the construction of two Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled containerships. The dual fuel LNG vessels will be built to Keppel's proprietary design with delivery of the first vessel expected in 1Q 2020, and the second vessel in 3Q 2020. Simon Lee, President of Keppel AmFELS said, "We are pleased that Pasha has chosen us to build their first two LNG fueled containerships to our innovative design. Pasha Hawaii Taps Keppel Fels to Build LNG-Fueled Boxships

Delivery of First Vessel Planned for Early 2020. Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii today announced that the company has selected Keppel AmFELS in Brownsville, TX, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) for the construction of two new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueled containerships, with the option to order two additional vessels. Pasha Hawaii is in the process of finalizing contract specifications. The new U.S. Jones Act vessels will carry 2,525 TEUs, including a fully laden capacity of 500 45-foot containers, 400 refrigerated containers, and 300 40-foot dry containers, with a sailing speed of 23.0 knots. Delivery of the first vessel is expected 1Q 2020, with delivery of the second vessel in 3Q 2020.

Matson Pumps $30 Million into Alaska Operations

Ocean cargo shipper Matson, Inc. said it is moving quickly to fund improvements in its new Alaska operations following its May 29 acquisition of Horizon Lines' Alaska services. The company expects to invest more than $30 million in new equipment planned by Horizon prior to its acquisition. SFL Sells its Holding in Horizon Lines

Ship Finance International Limited (SFL) has sold its holding of notes and warrants in Horizon Lines, Inc. for net cash proceeds of approximately $72 million. In April 2012, Ship Finance received $40 million of Horizon Lines second-lien notes and 9.25 million warrants in Horizon Lines in connection with a termination of the charters for five container vessels. Crowley to Manage 4 Jones Act Ships for Pasha

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s ship management group has been awarded a new contract with Sunrise Operations LLC, a subsidiary of The Pasha Group, of San Rafael, Calif., for the operation, crewing and maintenance of four Jones Act ships operating between the U.S. West Coast and Hawaii. The news follows the recent announcement that Pasha Hawaii, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Pasha Group, a family-owned global logistics company, will assume operations for all of Horizon Lines’ Hawaii business, including these four U.S.-flagged containerships.

Matson Completes Horizon Lines Acquisition

Matson, Inc. has completed the acquisition of Horizon Lines, Inc. which includes Horizon's Alaska operations and the assumption of all non-Hawaii business liabilities. Separately and immediately preceding the completion of the transaction, Horizon completed the sale of its Hawaii trade lane assets and liabilities to The Pasha Group for $141.5 million. Matson acquired the stock of Horizon for $0.72 per fully diluted common share, or $69 million, and repaid Horizon's outstanding debt, for a total transaction value of $469 million before transaction costs.

Horizon's Hawaii Business Acquisition Cleared by DOJ

Horizon Lines, Inc. reported yesterday that, after a review by the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, Horizon's proposed sales transaction with The Pasha Group has been granted early termination of the premerger waiting period. This grant was effective April 21, 2015. Subject to the satisfaction of any remaining conditions to closing, Horizon expects the closing of the transaction to occur before the end of the company's second quarter.

ConRo vessel M/V Marjorie has attained main engine light off while under final construction at VT Halter Marine, Pascagoula, Miss., signaling that the ship’s complex network of systems is complete and functional prior to delivery to Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii. Los Angeles Unveils Plans for Faster Cargo Flow

A new program that expedites cargo by streamlining container moves is speeding up operations at the Port of Los Angeles. Launched February 25, the "Peel Off" Program has added a new operational model to the Port to clear the current backlog of containers and improve the flow of cargo going forward. "We have found an efficient way to get containers to their destination that is beginning to pay off," said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “We’re acting on our pledge to our customers to harmonize the supply chain and make it work better. Horizon Lines Terminating Puerto Rico Operations

Horizon Lines announced that it would cease providing liner service between the U.S. and Puerto Rico by the end of 2014 due to continuing losses without the prospect of future profitability. Sea-Land Service, Inc. ("Sea-Land") pioneered the marine container shipping industry and established Horizon Lines' business on April 26, 1956, when the vessel Ideal-X sailed from Newark, New Jersey to Houston, Texas. Sea-Land introduced container shipping to the Puerto Rico market in 1958, which Horizon Lines has continued to the present. "We have a 56-year history in the Puerto Rico trade and truly value the relationships we have established," said Steve Rubin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Lines.

With the September call of the bulk carrier Sen Treasure, Port Manatee Scrap Metal Inc. is embarking upon exportation of scrap metal to Mexico from Port Manatee. Port Manatee Reports Dynamic Trade Boost

Port Manatee reported a dynamic increase in trade activity, and said exports are poised to get a further boost when Air Products begins exporting liquefied natural gas heat exchangers from the port next year. Figures recently released by WorldCity Trade Numbers show the value of Port Manatee’s trade with the world totaled $257.57 million through the first four months of 2014 – up 17.15 percent over the comparable period in 2013. Exports increased by 25.68 percent, while imports rose 14.34 percent.
