Kitchen Joins Stewart Enterprises, Inc. Board

William E. Rowe, Chairman and CEO of Stewart Enterprises, Inc. announced the election of Thomas M. Kitchen to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Kitchen is an investment management consultant with Equitas Capital Advisors, LLC in New Orleans. During a 25-year career with Avondale Industries, Inc., the nation's fifth largest shipbuilder, he served as president, chief financial officer and board member. He currently serves on the board of Conrad Industries, a marine fabricator headquartered in Morgan City, La. Mr. Rowe said, "We are very fortunate to have Tom Kitchen serving on our board. Mr. Kitchen holds both an undergraduate degree and master's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans, which recognized him as its 1997 Alumnus of the Year.

Kitchen To Retire From Northrop Grumman

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems announced that Thomas M. Kitchen will retire later this month as president of the sector's Avondale Operations. Mr. Kitchen, 54, started his career with Avondale in 1977 as assistant controller and was named president in late 1999. Dr. Philip A. Dur, president of Northrop Grumman's Ship Systems sector, noted Mr. Kitchen's numerous contributions to the company and his many years of service to Avondale. Sealift Ship To Be Christened Benavidez At Avondale

The seventh and final Strategic Sealift ship in the BOB HOPE Class will be christened BENAVIDEZ in ceremonies at the Northrop Grumman Corporation Avondale shipyard Saturday, July 21, 2001, beginning at 10 a.m. The new ship will be named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Army Master Sgt. Roy P. Benavidez, of Lindenau, Tex. Benavidez distinguished himself in a series of daring and extremely valorous actions while in the Republic of Vietnam assigned to Detachment B56, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces, U.S. Army. Newport News Shipbuilding and Avondale Industries to Merge

The boards of directors of Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) and Avondale Industries have approved a definitive agreement to combine the two companies. The transaction creates a leading, broad-based shipbuilding company with estimated 1999 revenues of $2.6 billion and nearly 24,000 employees. The combined company will be known as Newport News Avondale Industries. "The combination of Newport News and Avondale brings together two highly skilled and tremendously capable shipbuilding companies,'' said William P. Fricks, chairman and CEO of Newport News. Albert L. Conrad Appoints Kitchen to Board of Directors

Thomas M. Kitchen has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Conrad Industries. Kitchen is currently a consultant to businesses and individuals on general business matters and served as president of Avondale Industries from October 1999 until his retirement in January 2002.
