Wrecked Bulker’s Bow Refloated, Scuttled off S.Africa

TITAN Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corp.'s Houston-based marine salvage, emergency response and wreck removal company, has refloated and scuttled the largest section of the wrecked bulk carrier, Smart. The vessel was carrying a load of coal when it went aground in August 2013 in heavy seas in Richards Bay, South Africa. Complications ensued when the carrier broke apart after only two days. TITAN Salvage Appoint Capt. Ajay Prasad GM SE Asia

TITAN Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corporation’s marine salvage, emergency response and wreck removal company based in Houston, Texas, announce that Capt. Ajay Prasad has joined its leadership team as general manager, Southeast Asia. TITAN say that the veteran mariner, who started his career at sea over 20 years ago, will be domiciled in their Singapore office, reporting to TITAN’s Chris Peterson, vice president, and will oversee the company’s business and operational activities in Southeast Asia, Australia, the Pacific Rim and Middle East.

Crowley and Subsidiary TITAN Rub Shoulders in Houston

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s solutions group, project logistics and global freight management team, and subsidiary TITAN Salvage have relocated to a shared, custom-designed office and warehouse facility in Houston. The new consolidated location at 15894 Diplomatic Plaza Drive is expected to foster company-wide synergies, expand TITAN and Crowley’s customer base and create new business opportunities among the three groups. Together, these businesses, which are founded in engineering, project management and logistics, will ultimately be able to provide better, more value-added customer solutions.

Captain Dennis Brand will rejoin TITAN Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corporation’s Pompano, Fla.-based, marine salvage and wreck removal company, as director of global commercial operations, reporting to company Managing Director Rich Habib on January 2, 2013. As a member of the company’s senior management team, Captain Brand will help shape strategic, operational and commercial business initiatives particularly as they relate to emergency response, securing salvage and wreck removal work for TITAN around the world.

Crowley’s First Ocean Class Tugboat Performs Inaugural Job in Cuba

The first of four Crowley Maritime Corporation ocean class tugboats, Ocean Wave, completed its inaugural project earlier this month by removing a grounded containership from the northern coast of Cuba. The job is additionally significant because it utilized many of Crowley’s unique capabilities, equipment and established relationships with Cuban entities and government to complete the job quickly despite many challenges. The project’s success hinged on a coordinated and timely response from Antilliana De Salvemento, the Cuban salvage company which subcontracted Titan Salvage, Crowley’s Pompano, Fla.-based emergency response, marine salvage and wreck removal company, and Houston-based T&T Marine Salvage, to assist with the removal of the stricken containership.

Todd Busch: SVP and General Manager, Technical Services at Crowley Maritime Corporation. Todd Busch joined Crowley as an ordinary seaman in 1986, earning his masters’ license working aboard company tugboats before coming ashore in 1994 as a tug dispatcher. Since then, he has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility within the firm. Today, the 24-year Crowley veteran is a member of the company’s senior leadership team, reporting directly to Crowley CEO Tom Crowley. Based at Crowley’s headquarters in Jacksonville, FL, he is responsible for several of the company’s business enterprises including the project management organization PMOrg (known as Crowley solutions), as well as subsidiaries Titan Salvage, Jensen Maritime Consultants, and Intrepid Ship Management.

Titan Makes Headway on New Flame Salvage

Titan Salvage, Crowley Maritime Corporation's salvage and wreck removal company, reported that its salvage team on site in Gibraltar responding to the wreck of the bulk ship New Flame is preparing to begin cutting the stern section of the ship from the sunken bow so that the stern can be re-floated and towed away. ASA, ISU Exchange Affiliate Memberships

The American Salvage Association (ASA) has been accepted as an Affiliate Member of the International Salvage Union (ISU). In turn, the ISU has been accepted by the ASA as an Affiliate Member as well. While operating on different continents, the ASA and the ISU have virtually the same mission and engage in similar activities. Those include professionalizing the marine salvage industry, protecting the sensitive marine environment, identifying places of refuge, and developing industry Safety Standards. One of the ISU’s primary objectives is to foster a wider understanding of the salvage industry’s contribution to environmental protection and the recovery of property.

Crowley to Acquire Titan Maritime

Crowley Maritime Corporation Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley Jr. announced last night at the International Salvage Union's annual dinner that Crowley has reached agreement with the owners of Titan Maritime, LLC to acquire the company. The deal is expected to close within the next 30 days. Crowley made the announcement to an audience of about 60 salvors from around the world who had gathered for dinner at the Columbia Tower Club in Seattle as part of the weeklong International Salvage Union's annual conference.
