Belfast Opens New Cruise Terminal

Belfast Harbour, the maritime hub in Northern Ireland, said that it has opened the first dedicated cruise terminal on the island of Ireland to cater for Belfast’s growing popularity as a cruise destination.Christened as Cruise Belfast, it is a partnership between Belfast Harbour and Visit Belfast.Belfast Harbour has invested more than GBP500,000 on upgrading the quayside facility which now includes a Visitor Information Centre, part funded by Tourism NI and managed by Visit Belfast. Cochin Port to Roll-out New Cruise Terminal

A new Cruise Terminal having facilities to handle 5000 tourists will come up at Ernakulum Wharf of Cochin Port, India by February 2020. S.Korea: Five Shipbuilding Regions get "Industry Crisis" tag

South Korean Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon said on Tuesday the government will designate five key shipbuilding centres on the country's south coast as "industry crisis" zones eligible for economic support. The areas include Dong-gu in the city of Ulsan, Geoje-si of Kyong-nam province and Jinhae-gu of Changwon, as well as Tongyeong and Mokpo in the southwest coast. These areas are home to heavy shipping and shipbuilding companies and have struggled with high unemployment in recent years. A copy of the minister's speech released from the ministry showed the government would provide financial and tax incentives for suppliers of shipbuilding companies in the designated regions.

Global Ports to Run Havana’s Cruise Ship Port

Independent cruise port operator Global Ports Holding announced that it has signed a 15-year management agreement with the Cuban company Aries S.A., for the operation of the cruise port in Havana, Cuba.Under the terms of the Agreement, the Group will from June 21, 2018 manage all of the cruise port operations over the life of the agreement. As consideration, the Group will be paid a management fee that is based on a number of factors including passenger numbers, with growth based incentives. In addition to operating the cruise port operations, the Group will continue to work with its Cuban partners on the design and technical specification of the cruise port investment program, including proposed new terminals.

India Unveils Road Map for Cruise Operations

The Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the Indian government is committed to creating the right environment for promoting cruise tourism in the country. Speaking at Dawn of Cruise Tourism in India - an international conference organized by the Shipping Ministry at Mumbai Port today, he said that India has a huge potential of hosting nearly 40 lakh cruise tourists. Given the right impetus, the number of tourist ships visiting India can go up from the present 158 to about 955 per year. The Union Minister expressed confidence that the cruise tourism sector would be a game-changer for domestic as well as international travellers.

India Looks to Boost Domestic Cruise Industry

The government of India announced important steps in view to boost the domestic cruise tourism industry. It is estimated that on an average a cruise tourist spends about US$200-300 and a cruise staff/officer spends about US$100-150 per port visit. Cruise tourism is a high-end luxury tourist segment of tourism sector. Cruise operations augment local economic activities as business opportunities arise for supply for provisions, transport, hotels, bunkering etc. to cruise ships which generate direct and indirect employment. The local economy also gains from the spending by cruise tourists during land excursions. Genting Dream to Homeport in Singapore

Asian luxury cruise line Dream Cruises said it will homeport its inaugural vessel, Genting Dream, year-round in Singapore from December 3, 2017. Christened in November 2017, Genting Dream currently sails from Hong Kong or Guangzhou. With the move, the 151,300-metric-ton cruise ship will tap new markets, calling at more than 10 ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Significant growth in the Asian cruise industry over the recent years has presented new opportunities for the region, and Dream Cruises said it aims to be a pacesetter in Singapore.

Leighton Chairman retires, Executive Chairman & 2 Directors appointed

Leighton Holdings Chairman, Mr Bob Humphris OAM, has announced his retirement as Chairman and his resignation as a Non-executive Director effective as of today. Mr Humphris signaled his intention to retire at the Company’s recent Annual General Meeting in May. Mr Humphris said: “It has been a privilege to be involved with Leighton for the last nine and a half years and as Chairman for the last year. However it is now time for me to retire from corporate life and to hand over to a new team.
