Long Beach Approves Toyota's Green Terminal Makeover

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has given Toyota Logistics Services the green light to carry out a proposed major terminal upgrade project that includes the construction of a renewable energy fuel-cell power plant and hydrogen fueling station.The planned redevelopment aims to improve efficiency at the Toyota-operated marine terminal at Long Beach's Pier B, where new automobiles are offloaded from ships, processed and transported off-site via truck and railroad.Work on the private project…

California Port to Vote on Hydrogen Fuelling

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners is scheduled to vote Monday, Aug. 13, on a proposal by Toyota Logistics Services to reconfigure its facility at Pier B and build a renewable fuel-cell power plant and hydrogen fueling station.The study being released by the Port is called an Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND), meaning that no substantial evidence was found that the project would have a significant effect on the environment.Public comment on the proposal was accepted through July 10 and a final study and Notice of Intent have been issued.Toyota operates a marine terminal at the Port where new automobiles are off-loaded from ships, processed and transported off-site via truck or rail.

Toyota Recognizes Crowley for Quality

Toyota Logistics Services recently presented Crowley Maritime Corporation's liner services group with its prestigious Excellence in Quality Award for 2010 in recognition of Crowley's outstanding  performance transporting thousands of Toyotas from the U.S. to Puerto Rico during the year. It was the ninth consecutive year Crowley has received the award from Toyota. Charlie Dominguez, vice president, national accounts, accepted the award from Toyota officials on behalf of Crowley in Newport Beach, Calif.

Horizon Lines Presented Award

Horizon Lines Inc.received Toyota Logistics Excellence Award for Quality in Export Marine for its outstanding quality performance. Specifically noted by Toyota Logistics was Horizon's proficiency in the design and execution of its damage prevention program which delivered an over 70% reduction in damage incidents. Horizon Lines provides container loading and ocean transport services for Toyota's vehicles between the continental U.S. and Hawaii.
