Chinese state-owned shipping company COSCO Shipping Lines, Hong Kong container shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Japanese/Singapore container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation are to launch a new weekly Transatlantic service, East Mediterranean - America Service (EMA).The first commencing voyage is scheduled to operate on April, 2020, subject to Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) filing.The EMA service, jointly operated by the four lines, will consist of six Panamax vessels. A new plan is being formulated to preserve and improve one of the world's most historic and well-known vessels.The record-setting superliner Queen Mary has been sitting permanently moored in Long beach, Calif. since its removal from transatlantic service in 1967. China's COSCO Shipping has confirmed it will call at the port of Liverpool after a successful trial last October to offer its clients more efficient services between Britain and Canada."The world’s top five shipping lines are all now calling at Liverpool following confirmation that Chinese giant COSCO Shipping is to ship via the port," said a statement from the UK's most centrally-located container port.COSCO Shipping will take slots on an existing Canadian service via Montreal with OOCL. It joins MSC, Maersk, CMA and Hapag in starting or growing a presence in Liverpool.The decision follows a successful trial by COSCO Shipping in October…

Maersk Line, the world's largest shipping company, announced the expansion of its product portfolio between Europe's Mediterranean region and Canada to cater for the growing demands of importers and exporters on both sides of the Atlantic. The exclusive, fully Maersk Line-operated weekly service will be a five-vessel rotation stopping in Salerno and La Spezia (Italy), Fos-sur-Mer (France), Algeciras (Spain), Montreal and Halifax (Canada), and Valencia (Spain). Other Mediterranean markets will also be conveniently connected to the new service thanks to our integrated transhipment services in Algeciras and Valencia, with consistent products to/from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Alfa Laval reports its scrubber solution PureSOx has been the subject of many repeat orders. One of the major returning customers is the Grimaldi Group, which has now ordered its 10th installation of Alfa Laval’s exhaust gas cleaning system. The Grimaldi Group is a multinational logistics group specialized in the operation of RoRo vessels, car carriers and ferries. Through the maritime services of Atlantic Container Line, Finnlines and its other companies, the Naples-based group transports passengers, nearly any type of rolling cargo as well as containers and general cargo.

The CMA CGM Group announced that it will launch a new container shipping offering between North America and North Europe at the end of May 2015. The group will expand its existing transatlantic services with the launch of the NEW VESPUCCI service and the addition of a new port of call in Baltimore to its LIBERTY SOLO service. This week Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers (ARRC) celebrates the maiden voyage of the Baltic Mercur II via the port of Antwerp as part of their regular transatlantic service to the US Gulf. After long deliberation and extensive analysis, the company has chosen to anchor the European extension of ARRC’s multipurpose service in Antwerp. ARRC has been operating as the only direct transatlantic MPP carrier between St Petersburg Russia and the USA for the past 20 years. With a mixed fleet of LORO and LOLO vessels the company is responsible for moving almost half a million tons of ferrous and non ferrous metals, thousands of units of specialized equipment for the oilwell…

Merseyside based SeaKing Electrical has secured a transatlantic service agreement with a manufacturer of green technology for the maritime sector. The Birkenhead and Aberdeen business will be supporting Hyde Marine Inc. with its delivery of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). Hyde Marine is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., where the company designs and manufactures the Hyde Guardian GoldTM BWTS that combines efficient filtration and Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of seawater. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange listed Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC). SeaKing managing director Dave Gillam said the “green water” systems are set to play a major role in the global shipping sector.

Atlantic Container Line (ACL) contracts Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to build world's largest largest RORO/Containerships (CONRO's). The G4 (Generation 4) vessels will replace ACL's existing fleet of G3 CONROs operating in the company's transatlantic service. All five vessels will be delivered in 2015. The new vessels will be the first of their type ever built. They will be bigger, faster, greener and more efficient than their predecessors. The G4's will have a container capacity of 3800 TEUs plus 28,900 square meters of RORO space, with a car capacity of 1307 vehicles.

Shangai's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding contracted by Grimaldi Group to build 5 large RoRo container ships. The new generation of 3,800-teu Ro-Ro container ships will replace ACL's existing fleet of such types of ship operating in the company's transatlantic service and they will be the first of their type ever built. The newbuilds will be bigger, faster, greener and more efficient than their predecessors, according to ACL. All five vessels are to be delivered in 2015.

In collaboration with Hamburg Süd and ZIM, Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL have decided to upgrade their tonnage deployed in the Transatlantic Service between Europe and North America East Coast. From March 2012 instead  of four 3,700 TEU vessels, four 5,400 TEU ships are then to come into operation. As hitherto, Hamburg Süd and ZIM will each provide one vessel and Grand Alliance two. The weekly fixed-day service continues to have the port rotation: Rotterdam – Hamburg – Le Havre – Southampton – New York – Norfolk – Charleston – Rotterdam

FastShip has come to an agreement for international transportation and logistics provider Schneider International to provide three major services to support the FastShip transportation network. The company is formulating a high-speed, transatlantic service linking the middle of Europe to the mid-U.S. The agreement calls for Schneider National, operating through logistics subsidiaries, to act as the North American third party logistics provider, managing alliance partners and engineering a supply chain that will provide a logistics solution for shippers. Schneider will oversee complete control and cargo accountability over the operation of the North American inland transportation network, which includes intermodal transportation.

Italia Marittima SpA (ITS) is set to upgrade its Mediterranean – U.S. East Coast (MUS) service in a two-stage process that will see larger and faster ships serving the trade. Direct calls will be offered in Turkey while two Taranto calls will provide a connection with Italia’s Med feeder network. Six vessels, each with a capacity of approximately 2,500 TEU, will replace the present 1,800 TEU vessel fleet. Italia will provide two ships, Ital Oceano and Stadt Wismar, while partners CMA CGM and Gold Star Line are supplying the other four vessels. August will see the addition to the MUS schedule of the Italian hub port of Taranto while Barcelona will replace Valencia as the service’s Spanish call.

Hatsu Marine Limited is to launch a new service in June linking North Europe with the U.S. East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. The service, provided in partnership with CMA CGM and China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), will be known as EUG. In addition to serving the busy US-Mexico trades, the new service will allow Hatsu to link the fast-growing Mexican market with its European feeder and global networks over the major North European ports. The weekly service will deploy five ships, each able to load approximately 2,800 TEU. The vessels will operate at a service speed of 20.5 knots and offer approximately 350 reefer plugs. Hatsu will contribute one vessel, while the other lines will supply two each. The first sailing will take place on 4 June out of Le Havre.

Italia Marittima SpA (ITS) and Zim will launch a new weekly transatlantic service early August 2006. Designated the North Europe – US East Coast (NEC) service, it will link the North European ports of Antwerp, Hamburg and Liverpool with New York, Norfolk and Savannah. The new service will deploy four ships, each with a loading capacity of approximately 1,800 TEU. ITS will provide two ships, while Zim will contribute the other two ships. Antwerp – Hamburg – Liverpool – New York – Norfolk – Savannah. According to ITS, the NEC service will complement its slot allocation on the NUE service, an Evergreen-operated pendulum service linking North Europe, North America and Asia via the Panama Canal.
