Maersk Line Opens New Container Depot

Maersk Line announced the opening of a new container depot at Nexus Industrial Estate in Altona, Australia, officially opened by Victorian Minister for Ports and Major Projects, the Hon. David Hodgett MP. Through taking over a 5ha facility, Maersk Line said it has become the anchor tenant at Salta Properties’ 40ha Nexus Industrial Intermodal Terminal at Altona. Salta Properties is developing two Nexus Industrial Intermodal Terminals, one in Altona and the second is a larger 180ha site at Dandenong South, which will open in the coming months.

Richard D. Steinke To Receive 2011 Connie Award

Long Beach, CA (May 9, 2011) -- Richard D. Steinke, who will retire this year as executive director of the Port of Long Beach and who was instrumental in developing the Port into one of the world's largest container harbors, has been selected to receive the Connie Award to be presented on the West Coast by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (www.containerization.org). The industry-wide dinner event honoring Mr. Steinke will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach, CA.

CII Seeks Award Nominations

The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) will host an industry-wide Connie Award dinner on October 1 at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach, Ca. The event is in addition to the annual Connie Luncheon that will take place December 7 at the Newark Club in Newark, N.J. Allen Clifford, CII President and Executive VP of Mediterranean Shipping Company, said "Every year industry representatives across the U.S. have been drawn to the prestigious Connie Awards, so we will hold a Connie program on both coasts to meet the popular demand of this event. The Connie Award has gone to industry leaders throughout the U.S., and even internationally, at a single event each year on the East Coast. NOAA PORTS Installed in Mobile Bay

Mobile, Ala. has become the 14th location in the United States to install the Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System. that can reduce the risk of vessel groundings and increase the amount of cargo moved through the port. Feature: Barge Movement Tracking of Certain Dangerous Cargoes (CDCs) Mandated

On May 2, 2003, the USCG published two Temporary Final Rules establishing Regulated Navigation Areas (RNAs) in the Federal Register governing the movement (by barge) of Certain Dangerous Cargoes (CDCs) upon the inland rivers of the Eighth Coast Guard District and the Illinois Waterway System in the Ninth Coast Guard District. The rules will apply from April 16, 2003, until October 31, 2003. Any movement of CDCs by barge within the waters specified must be reported to the Inland River Vessel Movement Center (IRVMC) by telephone, fax, or e-mail. The USCG indicates that no Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published as this notice falls under the exemption to the Administrative Procedures Act contained in the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) of 2002.
