Ray LaHood Accepts 2013 WTS Navigator Award

Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood accepted the 2013 WTS Navigator Award—the first ever awarded by WTS International--at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC, Tuesday night. In 2009, the United States alone shipped more than 2.2 billion pounds of goods such as coal, crude materials like wood, sand and gravel, and primary manufactured goods (United States Census Bureau). Undoubtedly, this required complex logistical planning for companies shipping their goods and left many transportation managers with headaches. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that there is an uptick in interest to invest in upgraded transportation management systems that help companies manage shipping both domestically and internationally.

Port Vision to Supply TerminalSmart to Sunoco

TerminalSmart is the industryÂ’s first web-based service platform that integrates vessel tracking, dock management, and analysis in a single, convenient operational dashboard for marine terminal operators. TerminalSmart supports dock scheduling, comprehensive dock activity logging, and business intelligence reporting.

PortVision-hosted Conference Invites' TerminalSmart' Users

PortVision to host a TerminalSmart forum for marine terminal managers & Automatic Identification System (AIS) operators. The meeting will address key issues facing marine terminals, particularly marine operations associated with the petrochemical supply chain. This includes marine transportation managers challenged with chartering, scheduling, vetting, logistics, loss control and demurrage management, as well as operations managers responsible for front-line dock activities and dock management. Representatives from a number of major oil companies and leading terminal operators have already registered to attend. “These summits help us meet the evolving needs of our marine terminal customers and the maritime industry as a whole,” said Dean Rosenberg, PortVision chief executive officer.

Emerson Acquires Marine Controls Business From Johnson Controls

St. Louis, Mo. – Emerson today announced that it has acquired the Marine Container and Boiler business of Johnson Controls Inc., enabling Emerson Climate Technologies to expand its refrigeration technology and solutions offerings in the global transportation sector. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Johnson Controls’ Denmark-based Marine Container and Boiler business supplies controls for optimal operation of refrigerated sea containers and marine boilers, along with solutions which monitor and report on refrigeration conditions within large groups of marine shipping containers on land or at sea to ensure product quality and food safety.

Veson Nautical’s IMOS Selected by Neste Oil

Veson Nautical, the US-based maritime software developer that delivers outstanding chartering, operations and accounting solutions to marine cargo transportation managers across the globe, announced that Neste Oil Corporation has licensed Veson’s Integrated Maritime Operations System (IMOS). Neste Oil, an independent northern European oil refining and marketing company will leverage IMOS in its Shipping Division for all activities related to the company’s fleet of tankers. Veson Nautical’s solution was selected from among seven other providers after Neste conducted a thorough analysis of needs and internal processes to ensure the new operating system would be able to handle all current and future requirements.
