TUI Reports Loss as Omicron Trumps Summer Recovery

TUI reported an operating loss of over 2 billion euros ($2.26 billion) for its 2020-2021 financial year and said it may need to cut winter capacity as the Omicron coronavirus variant overshadows hopes of a rebound next summer.The world's largest holiday company has struggled since pandemic restrictions wreaked havoc on the tourism industry, leaving its hotels, airlines and cruises largely empty since March 2020.It expects travel bookings to return to pre-pandemic levels by summer 2022 but the Omicron variant has prevented it from giving an outlook for the current fiscal year running from Oct.

Stena Line To Close Trelleborg-Sassnitz Route

Stena Line will permanently suspend operations on its ferry route between Trelleborg, Sweden and Sassnitz, Germany due to the coronavirus pandemic, the European operator announced on Wednesday.The cancellation comes after Stena Line announced in March it would temporarily suspend operations on the route.Stena Line has initiated discussions with the workers' council Betriebsrat in Germany. Stena Line Announces More Job Cuts Due to COVID-19

CLIA Predicts Cruise Passenger Increase in 2015

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) released its annual State of the Cruise Industry Report today and is once again projecting industry growth in 2015. A record 23 million passengers are expected to sail this year, with 61 percent of North American CLIA-certified travel agents reporting an increase in 2015 travel bookings over this time last year. CLIA also revealed that member cruise lines are scheduled to debut 22 new ocean, river and specialty ships in 2015, representing a total investment of more than $4B.
