The Australian Department of Defense will order an additional two Evolved Cape-class Patrol Boats (ECCPB’s) for the Royal Australian Navy from shipbuilder Austal for $124 million. BAE Systems has been awarded a contract worth almost £2 million ($2.5 million) to provide six Pacific 24 (P24) rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) to Austal, based in Australia. Austal has completed its first European defense contract following the commissioning of four 69.5-ft inshore patrol craft for the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM). More than 90 personnel from the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) have completed a comprehensive Austal vessel training program in preparation for the delivery of six vessel Fast Patrol Craft fleet in early 2010. The crew training program - held at Austal’s training facilities in Western Australia - familiarized TTCG personnel with the specific features and capabilities of the 30 m Fast Patrol Craft, equipping them with the skills necessary to operate the vessels and perform basic maintenance.
