DNV Awards KNCC AIP for High Pressure LCO2 Transport Concept

Classification society DNV announced it has awarded approval in principle (AIP) to Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers (KNCC) for its PCO2 tank system for the transportation of liquefied CO2 (LCO2).Many of the world’s decarbonization goals can only be met through use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. NYK, Knutsen Form Liquefied CO2 Transportation and Storage JV

Japan's NYK and Norway's Knutsen Group have formed a joint venture company for the commercial development of a liquefied CO2 marine transportation and storage business using the Knutsen developed technology PCO2 which allows transport of liquified CO2 at ambient temperatures. NYK and the Knutsen Group, will each hold a 50% stake in the new company, which has been named Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers (KNCC). Hyundai to Build 2 LNG carriers for Knutsen

Norwegian shipping company Knutsen said that  Shell signed separate agreements for four LNG carriers with affiliates of Knutsen liquefied natural gas (LNG), two LNG carriers with Korea Line Corporation and two LNG Carriers with Global Meridian Holdings Limited.The LNG carrier owner and ship management  company informed that the 174,000 cbm LNG carriers will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.The new vessels will all be equipped with efficient dual-fuel X-DF engines, boil-off management plants, air lubrication systems and shaft generators for auxiliary power. DSME to Build 2 LNG Tankers for KNOT

Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT), owner and operator of shuttle tanker operator, announced that it has been awarded a contract to build two  liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled Shuttle Tanker.According to the fully integrated industrial shipping company, the two new 124,000 DWT LNG fueled shuttle tankers will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd shipyard in Korea with delivery mid-2022 and the vessels will operate in North Sea under time-charter contract for a maximum 10 years period.The vessels will be able to reduce emissions of CO2 equivalents significantly compared to conventional oil-fueled shuttle tankers…

HMD Wins $77m LNG Shipbuilding Deal

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) became Korea’s first shipbuilder to win an order for a small-to-medium-sized liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from a foreign shipping company, gaining momentum to pioneer the emerging small-scale LNG tanker segment.HMD signed a contract with Norway’s Knutsen to build a 30,000 cu. m. LNG carrier for $77 million, with an option for a second vessel of the same specification.The signing ceremony, held in Knutsen’s headquarters office based in Oslo, was attended by Hyundai Heavy Industries’ (HHI) President Ka Sam-hyun and Knutsen’s President Trygve Seglem along with others.The vessel on order from Knutsen is 180 meters in length…

KNOT Offshore CEO/CFO John Costain Steps Down

UK-based KNOT Offshore Partners has announced that John Costain has decided to step down as CEO and CFO of the partnership."Although Costain is resigning in order to pursue other interests outside of the partnership, he will be available for the partnership until 31 May 2019," said a press release from the publicly-traded master limited partnership, which , operates and acquires shuttle tankers under long-term charters in the offshore oil production regions of the North Sea and Brazil."This ensures that the Board has sufficient time to find a suitable replacement to Costain when he steps down," it added.The release quoted Trygve Seglem, the Chairman of the Board as saying: "On the behalf of our board, I would like to thank John for his significant contribution and dedication to KNOP.

KNOT Name New Shuttle Tankship

Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers AS (KNOT) name their new tankship 'Ingrid Knutsen' in a ceremony in Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipyard. The ceremony was attended by KNOT president Trygve Seglem, NYK senior managing corporate officer Hitoshi Nagasawa, and NYK corporate officer Svein Steimler, among others. The 112,000 dwt shuttle tanker, which is equipped with a class II dynamic positioning system and a bow-loading system, was named Ingrid Knutsen, and will be used to transport North Sea crude oil to shore.

CSA to Present Shepheard Award

Grieg Named New President of the NSA

The Annual General Meeting of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) has elected Elisabeth Grieg, the Chief Executive of Grieg International AS, as the Association's new President. Grieg (48) was proposed unanimously by the election committee and succeeds Trygve Seglem of Knutsen OAS Shipping, who has been President for the last two years. Elisabeth Grieg is the first female president of the NSA. Thor Jørgen Guttormsen of Leif Høegh & Co in Oslo and Stig Remøy of Olympic Shipping AS in Fosnavåg were elected as new vice-presidents, having been NSA Board members for six and four years, respectively.

Hvide New President of NSA

The annual General Assembly of The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association has today elected shipowner Johan G. Hvide, Seatrans DA in Bergen, as President for a two years period. Mr. Hvide was unanimously proposed and was elected by acclamation. Elisabeth Grieg from Grieg International AS in Oslo and Trygve Seglem from Knutsen OAS Shipping AS in Haugesund were elected Vice Presidents. President: Johan G. Kjell E.
