Sanmar Delivers Tug to Turkey's Mersin International Port

Pakistan's Port Qasim Orders Four Tugs and Two Pilot Boats

Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards said it has won contracts worth $33.46 million to supply four new tugs and two new pilot boats for the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) in Pakistan. The tugs are scheduled to be delivered in 12 months and the pilot boats in 10.The contracts were awarded following an international tendering process during which Sanmar championed its new Kocacay range of escort and harbor tugs, based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar RAstar 3200SX design from Canada-based naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.

Sanmar Adds Two New Tugs

Sanmar Shipyards has delivered another vessel in its Delicay tug series—this time to its own fleet.Like its sister tugs, the the 25.3m x 12m x 6.1m Delicay Vlll is a Z-drive tractor tug built to Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd’s exclusive to Sanmar TRAktor-Z 2500SX design, created in partnership with the Turkish tug-builder and operator for both harbor ship handling and towing duties.Built at Sanmar Shipyards Altinova, the tug is powered by 2x 2100kW main engines, giving it a speed ahead of around 12 knots and 75 tonnes of bollard pull.

Turkey’s leading tug builder Sanmar Shipyards was selected by Caterpillar Marine to build the first tug to incorporate its hydraulic hybrid propulsion system. Construction is currently under way with delivery scheduled for October 2019. Sanmar Wins Tug Order

Sanmar Completes Six Vessel Order for Svitzer

The delivery of Svitzer Avon to the Port of Bristol in the U.K. signals the completion of Sanmar's six boat build contract as part of Svitzer's tugboat replenishment program known as the Silver Bullet Project. The conclusion of this order brings the collaboration between the Turkish tug builder and Canadian tug design specialist Robert Allan Limited (RAL) to a number in excess of 150 vessels. All six of Svitzer’s new high performance tugboats are RAL designed RAstar 2800 E designs designated by the builder as the Sanmar Terminal Class measuring 28.2m x 12.6m.

UK Tug Operator Extends Turkish Built Fleet

By purchasing a brand new tug from Sanmar Shipyards, U.K. operator SMS Towage has taken delivery of its seventh ASD tug built by the Turkish tug builder. The new tug is named Superman, continuing an established pattern – the previous six Sanmar built tugs in the SMS fleet are called Statesman, Scotsman, Yorkshireman, Masterman, Englishman and Merchantman. The new tug is of the Sanmar exclusive Robert Allan Ltd RAmparts 2400 SX design, designated by the builder as the Bogacay series.

More Sanmar Newbuilds Cross the Atlantic

Svitzer Americas’ newest vessels Svitzer Monte Cristi and Svitzer Catuan have been delivered by Turkish tug builder Sanmar. The boats, which will be operated in the Dominican Republic, are Ramparts 2400 SX class tugs, designed by Robert Allan Limited exclusively for Sanmar, and are known as the Bogaçay Class of which 30 have now been purchased by customers worldwide. The tugs measure 24.4m in length with a molded beam of 11.25m and an overall draft 5.7m. They are powered by pair of Caterpillar 3516 C main engines…

Dometic Marine Supplies Chilled Water Systems to Signet

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) specialist Dometic Marine has recently secured orders to supply its chilled water equipment to high performance tug builder Signet Maritime. As part of the new contract, Dometic Marine will supply its chillers on-board three  Signet 82 Metric Ton Bollard Pull Z-Drive tugs, to provide each vessel with 240,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit) or 20 tons of capacity. "We require the highest quality and proven-reliable air conditioning to provide a comfortable and pleasant working environment for our crew members, as well as cool sensitive electronic equipment on-board," said Joseph W. Dahl, General Manager of New Construction for Signet Maritime.

The first Damen ASD Tug 3110 was built in 1993: the Citta Della Spezia. Great Boats of 2000

Every year, MarineNews chooses a handful of vessels delivered in the past 12 months and bestows upon them the distinction of “Great Boats.” The boats are chosen for innovations in design, construction and utilization. Following are the 17 vessels or groups of vessels chosen as the Great Boats of 2000. Crowley Marine Services delivered Alert, Attentive, and Aware, a series of three 140-ft., 10,000-hp Prevention and Response Tugs (PRTs), to Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in Valdez, Alaska. Specifically designed and developed for Alyeska, the boats will be used by Crowley in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System trade. Alert was deployed in February; Attentive was delivered in June, and Aware was delivered in July.

Tug from Forward Marine

Forward Shipbuilding Enterprise Sdn Bhd. is a tug builder from Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. On a recent visit the yard was typically full of tugs under construction including two boats in the water and a third ready for the water. Being readied for the launch the 31 x 8.6-meter tug SS 3200 shows a fair hull with a fine bow merging with a double-chine that sweeps aft in a manner that will bring good water flow to the 2300m/m diameter props in nozzles. A pair of rolling chocks will contribute to crew comfort at sea. Driving thishull is a pair of Cummins KTA50 M2 main engines each generating 1600 hp at 1800 RPM. The engines turn into Reintjes WAF665 marine gears with 5.95:1 gears. Electrical generators are powered by two Cummins 6BTS5.9D(M). Scott & English (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

Regional Report: Pacific Coast

Seattle's MARCO shipyard has been completing a rush job for Great Lakes Towing affiliate TUGZ International and is expected to have three new tractor tugs ready for christening by February 13. At the same time, the yard has just started to cut steel for two slightly larger tractors being built for San Francisco-based BayDelta. The latter will measure 105 ft. and will be powered by twin Caterpillar diesels of 4,400 combined hp driving Ulstein Z-drive units fitted with high-performance Nautican nozzles. Towing winches and headline winches will be provided by Burrard Iron Works Ltd of Vancouver, B.C. The three TUGZ boats, to be christened Z-Three, Z-Four and Z-Five, are 95-ft., and will also make use of Caterpillars turning Ulstein z-drives.
