Manor Renewable Energy Orders Two Crew Transfer Vessels from Strategic Marine

Manor Renewable Energy (MRE) ordered two aluminium catamaran-type crew transfer vessels  Strategic Marine. The vessels will support MRE’s offshore operations in the UK, Europe, and Asia.The two vessels, due to be named Manor Victor and Manor Vulcan, are both BMT designed 27m aluminium catamarans built by Strategic Marine in Singapore. They are powered by two Caterpillar C32 1450hp marine engines; each have a fuel capacity of 35,000ltrs, seating for up to 30 technicians and capability to safely transfer in over 1.75m Hs.

BMT Designs New Vessels for Isles of Scilly Steamship Company

Naval architecture and marine engineering firm BMT has introduced new passenger and cargo vessel designs to replace older tonnage in the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company fleet.Designed to replace the 44-year-old Scillonian III, a new 72-meter vessel Scillonian IV will carry 600 passengers over three decks with a contemporary, comfortable seating arrangement, onboard coffee shop and retail area. New COSCO Service Between UK, Europe, Russia

Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company COSCO Shipping Lines announced a new COSCO feeder service from St Petersburg, Russia will begin calling at DP World Southampton."COSCO is to introduce a new weekly call at DP World Southampton, as part of a rotation including St Petersburg, Russia; Kotka, Finland; Southampton, UK; and Rotterdam, Netherlands," said a press release.The news comes after COSCO confirmed in February that DP World Southampton will be a permanent call on its feeder service. Wind Provides 14% of European Electricity

Wind energy provided 14% of the European Union’s electricity last year, according to figures published by the region’s wind energy trade body, WindEurope, with 11.7 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity added, including 2.65 GW of offshore wind. Continued growth in capacity and the use of more powerful turbines are helping to drive up wind’s share in the electricity mix. Denmark had the highest share of wind in its electricity last year (41%) followed by Ireland (28%) and Portugal (24%). Wind was 21% of Germany’s electricity.Wind accounted for 49% of all the new power generation capacity in Europe in 2018. But the amount of new wind capacity was down a third on 2017 (a record year).

CMR Group Awarded R&D Funding

LR Verifies BP FPSO Glen Lyon

The Glen Lyon floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, BP’s newest North Sea asset, was awarded full-term classification certificates for service in the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, 175 km west of Shetland. Conditions west of Shetland are among the most severe in the UK and Glen Lyon must be capable of operating in extreme weather. Classification means the Glen Lyon FPSO has been verified for operation to the highest levels of safety and performance by LR. Glen Lyon is the world’s largest harsh water FPSO and formed part of BP’s multi-billion-pound Quad 204 project.

US LNG Shipments Point to Global Gas Price Convergence

The emergence of US liquefied natural gas as a competitive alternative for European and Asian customers, combined with an oversupplied market, should drive more convergence between natural gas prices at major hubs and weaken the link between gas and oil prices, Fitch Ratings says. Scottish Exporters Bullish on New Shipping Service

As the shipping operator BG Freight Line is set for a new freight service connecting the links, Scotland’s food and drink, chemical and manufacturing industries are looking for a boost. BG Freight Line, wholly-owned by Clydeport owner Peel Ports, has extended its Irish Sea network with a new service connecting Rotterdam, Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin and Greenock. Mustang Marine Launches Recruitment Drive

Mustang Marine, which is under a new ownership and management structure after being bought out of administration in May 2014 by a group of nine investors, has completed a broad range of orders in what was a successful second half of 2014, the company reports. Now, the Pembroke Dock-based firm says it is actively recruiting skilled workers and apprentices to meet a busy work schedule going into the New Year. Mustang Marine has created 12 new jobs over the last six months, bringing the total workforce to 42 people.

Tidetech to Supply NAPA Ship Tidal Prediction Data

Under the new structure, the Bermuda-based UK Club will cease to write direct insurance business. Its existing direct business will transfer to UK Europe. UK Bermuda will become the reinsurer of UK Europe. It will continue to be the holding company controlled by the Club’s Members – i.e., those ship-owners whose vessels are insured by the Club.

Transas Appoints New Sales Manager

Transas has appointed Henry Nel, as the Sales Manager for Shore- Based Systems in the USA. In his position, Henry will be responsible for increasing the sales of Transas VTS and coastal surveillance systems in North America, providing support on AIS to all Transas offices around the world and giving input to the design team on AIS related products. Moreover, Henry will be in charge of establishing a second Transas office in the USA to improve customer’ support in the regions geographically remote from the TM USA main office in Lynnwood, WA. In addition to the strong theoretical background in Electronic Engineering (Honours Degree from the University of Pretoria), Henry has a 10-years hands-on experience as a System Engineer.
