Habben Jansen Takes over as Hapag-Lloyd CEO

Hapag-Lloyd announced changes in its Executive Board resulting from departure of Michael Behrendt and Ulrich Kranich; Anthony J. Rolf Habben Jansen, who has been a member of the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board since April 1, has assumed the position of CEO effective July 1. He succeeds Michael Behrendt, who left the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board as scheduled on June 30, as did COO Ulrich Kranich. The new COO is Anthony J. Firmin who joined the Executive Board today after 19 years at the company. Peter Ganz continues as CFO, a position he has held since April 2009.

Hapag-Lloyd Ensures Continuity within Executive Management

At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has set the course at an early stage for maintaining continuity in the Executive Board of Germany’s largest liner shipping company. Rolf Habben-Jansen will succeed Chief Executive Officer Michael Behrendt, who is set to leave in the middle of next year. Habben-Jansen has been appointed to the Executive Board of the company with effect from April 1, 2014 and will assume the position of Chairman of the Executive Board on July 1, 2014. Habben-Jansen is a successful and experienced manager in the logistics sector. Having held positions at the Royal Nedlloyd Group and at DHL, he became CEO of the freight forwarding group Damco NV in The Hague in 2009.

Ship’s Boy to Executive Board

Hapag-Lloyd executive board member Adolf Adrion is retiring at the end of the year after over 50 years with the company. “Adolf Adrion is leaving us as a shipping expert who put his excellent expertise and experience in the service of Hapag-Lloyd for more than 50 years and also assumed many honorary posts in the maritime industry. It was only fitting that he was accepted into the Maritime Hall of Fame this year,” declared Michael Behrendt, chairman of the executive board of Hapag-Lloyd AG, on the occasion of the official farewell, attended by close on 200 invited guests, including customers, partners and vendors from all over the world. After attending navigation school, Adolf Adrion started his career as a deck boy on a Hapag general cargo ship on August 14th 1957.

Hapag-Lloyd Restructures Executive Board

Ulrich Kranich will be responsible on the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG for the global operations in future. He is taking over this role from Adolf Adrion who is retiring at the end of the year. Michael Behrendt will be responsible for the financial department in addition to serving as Executive Board Chairman (CEO). The Supervisory Board appointed Roland Kirch  Chief Representative (Generalbevollmächtigter). In future, Kirch will be head of the financial area, which also includes the information technology area.

Adrion Appointed CEO of CP Ships

The board of CP Ships Limited has appointed Adolf Adrion new CEO effective 1st January 2006 following the completion of the acquisition of CP Ships by Hapag-Lloyd at the end of 2005 The new CFO will be Ulrich Kranich, effective 1st February 2006. Mr Adrion, also executive board member of Hapag-Lloyd AG, is retaining his previous responsibilities and is taking over from former CP Ships CEO Ray Miles, who stepped down from his post on 31st December 2005. Mr Kranich, also CFO of Hapag-Lloyd AG, will also retain his previous duties. He will succeed current CFO Ian Webber who will leave his post at the end of January. Adolf Adrion joined Hapag in 1957 and assumed various management functions. He was appointed a member of the executive board of Hapag-Lloyd AG in 2004.
