Ulstein to Build PSVs for Remøy Shipping

Remøy Shipping has signed a contract with Ulstein Verft for two eco-friendly platform supply vessels (PSV) of ULSTEIN PX105 type designed by Ulstein Design with future oriented products and systems from Ulstein Elektro. The vessels are already set for long-term contracts with StatoilHydro upon completion. The vessels will be delivered in February and May 2011. A large number of the details in the newly developed ULSTEIN PX105 design are according to requirement specifications from StatoilHydro. The ULSTEIN PX105 design is 88.8 metres long and 19 metres wide, with a total output of 7600 eKW.

Ulstein Design to be Built by Merwede

Solstad Offshore ASA signed a Letter of Intent with Dutch Merwede Shipyard to build an Ulstein P105 platform supply vessel, which signed a contract with reservations with Ulstein Design AS regarding the delivery of a design and equipment package worth a total of more than NOK 70 million. "This is Ulstein Design's first contract outside the Ulstein Group and is very important for us," says Ulstein Design's President, Tore Ulstein. The first Ulstein P105 platform supply vessel was built in 2003, and earlier this year contracts were signed for two new construction projects and one option.

Merwede Tapped for Navy, Commercial Contracts

Merwede Shipyard has been busy of late, announcing two significant jobs from the military and commercial sectors. On the military side, the company announced a contract for the design, engineering and building of one Multi-Role Vessel, for Tenix Defence of Australia. The vessel will meet or exceed all operational requirements of the New Zealand Ministry of Defense, including those for cargo and troop carriage, speed, endurance, helicopter operations and the secondary role of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol and response. This MRV is part of a total of seven vessels that will be supplied by Tenix Defence to the Ministry of Defence of New Zealand, and the vessel, built to the rules of Lloyd's Register, will take 22 months to build.

Ulstein Formalizes Aftermarket Focus

Peter Hjelle, Paul Inge Steinnes and Robert Eksund coordinate service and aftermarket projects at Ulstein Elektro. Ulstein Elektro is formalizing its aftermarket focus through the establishment of a separate service and aftermarket division. “In order to take care of this rapidly growing market, we now offer a separate business area called Ulstein Worldwide Services. When we deliver a system or product, we also commit ourselves to service and maintenance in order to guarantee safe and lasting product use. We provide service and adjustments to all types of maritime services as part of this offer,” says Robert Eksund, service group leader at Ulstein Elektro. The Worldwide Services division has a staff of 35.

Ulstein Builds for Marine Subsea

Marine Subsea Inc. signed a contract with Ulstein Verft for building an offshore construction vessel specialized in inspection, maintenance and repair operations (IMR/OCV) of the ULSTEIN SX121 design from Ulstein Design. The value of the contract is about $154.6m. The ship will be delivered in 2010 and is the fourth vessel of the type ULSTEIN SX121 from Ulstein Design. The vessel will be yard number 287 at Ulstein Verft. Marine Subsea Inc. has previously contracted a similar vessel from Ulstein Verft for delivery in July 2009. ”We have great faith in the Ulstein Group and are very satisfied working with Ulstein so far. In a pressured market with many delays in both equipment and deliveries, it is important to have a good dialog with the shipyard.

Eastern Echo Builds Seismic Ships

The newly formed, Dubai-based shipping company Eastern Echo is building four ships of the Ulstein SX124 design. These will be the first seismic vessels of Ulstein design and will be built with the Ulstein X-BOW. In total, five shipowners have chosen this new bow concept. ”Ulstein Design is a young ship design company that has gained much interest worldwide. The contracts with Eastern Echo are important for Ulstein Design, as their portfolio also will cover the seismic area. The engineering department of Ulstein Verft are busy in the development of the project, and for Ulstein Elektro these contracts are all-time highest. The international focus in Ulstein Design is thus important for the Ulstein Group in total, says deputy CEO, Tore Ulstein.

Ulstein Design Wins Big in China

Bourbon has signed a contract with Zhejiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in China concerning the construction of four ULSTEIN P105 platform supply vessels. Ulstein Design AS will deliver the design and major equipment for the vessels. The contract has a total value of around NOK 350 million for Ulstein Design. The vessels will be delivered between September 2007 and September 2008. “This is a major and important breakthrough in the Chinese market for the Ulstein Group. China is a new arena for Ulstein Design, and we are very happy to be selling the designs and equipment for no less than four vessels when we enter this market,” says the president of Ulstein Design, Tore Ulstein. “The contracts are announced at a time when we are already very busy in the Ulstein Group.
