Wärtsilä, Maersk Developing Solution to Prevent Scrubber Discharge Pipe Corrosion

The technology group Wärtsilä and Danish ship operator A.P. Moller - Maersk have provided a means for preventing corrosion in scrubber discharge pipes. The permanent in-pipe solution is designed to solve corrosion problems associated with open-loop scrubber washwater discharge.The majority of the estimated 5,000 scrubber systems installed across the global fleet are of open-loop configuration. SGS Acquires SRN Group Diving & ROV Underwater Services (Belgium)

Albwardy Damen Opens Repair Workshop in SOHAR

ASI Marine Adds Falcon ROV

Trident Opens UAE Diving Center

Trident, a subsidiary of Wärtsilä, is strengthening its underwater-related servicing capabilities with the opening of a new diving center facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. Wärtsilä Acquires Trident B.V.

Wärtsilä said it has acquired Netherland based Trident B.V., a specialist in underwater ship maintenance, inspection and repair services. The acquisition is expected to close in January 2018. Bryan Nicholls, president and COO of Texas based offshore and inland commercial diving contractor U.S. Underwater Services, LLC, has been elected president of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) at its annual conference. Emergency Towing Vessel Contracted for Scotland

The U.K. Government’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) has awarded a five-year contract for a new Scottish Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) to Ardent Maritime Netherlands BV, to begin on December 31, 2016. The ship is the Ievoli Black, a 70-meter towing vessel of some 2,283 gross metric tons and a bollard pull of 139 metric tons, capable of firefighting operations, anchor handling, towing, research and underwater services. The Marnavi-owned Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel is experienced in ETV operations, having served as an ETV for the Netherlands from 2010 to 2013.

GAC EnvironHull a big hit with Rotterdam Port

Europe’s largest port is the latest to allow the GAC EnvironHull’s eco-friendly hull cleaning system to operate in its waters. The launch of HullWiper at Rotterdam, widely acknowledged as a pioneer in innovation and shipping technology, was marked by a panel discussion, webinar and live demonstration. The Port of Rotterdam’s Senior Manager, Peter Mollema, said the ground-breaking technology exactly aligns with Rotterdam’s ambition to be the most sustainable port of its kind. “In its 'The Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016' the World Economic Forum has for the fourth consecutive time declared that the Netherlands has the best port infrastructure,”  he told more than 100 industry figures from the city and beyond who gathered at the Floating Pavilion or followed the event online.

Ardent and Ardentia Join Forces

Global maritime services firm, Ardent, and Ardentia Marine Group, a Spanish salvage, engineering and commercial diving company, have formally partnered for future operations following the signing of a cooperation agreement in June 2016. Ardentia has been the emergency response and underwater services provider for the Spanish Coast Guard since 2009, and has intervened in nearly 100 operations with marine casualty control, fuel and bunker removal, refloating and wreck removal. The company maintains a strong presence in Spain and Portugal.

HullWiper Enters European Market

Gothenburg is the latest port to be added to the growing GAC EnvironHull network of bases offering HullWiper, its eco-friendly, brush-and-diver-free hull cleaning service. The port on Sweden's west coast is the first in Europe to host the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). This comes after GAC EnvironHull Ltd. launched HullWiper in Dubai in November 2013. It started offering the service at Fujairah, UAE, last month. Now, another HullWiper unit is available at Gothenburg, operated through Frog Marine Services AB, a local underwater services provider in partnership with GAC EnvironHull. Gothenberg Port Offers GAC HullWiper Service

Ship service provider GAC inform that Gothenburg is the latest port to be added to the growing GAC EnvironHull network of bases offering HullWiper, its eco-friendly, brush-and-diver-free hull cleaning service. GAC add that the port on Sweden's west coast is the first in Europe to host the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The HullWiper ROV is an unmanned hull cleaning unit which uses adjustable pressure sea water jets as the cleaning medium rather than brushes or abrasives, resulting in minimal damage to the antifouling surface. Residues and harmful marine growths captured during cleaning are disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner instead of being discharged into the sea as done using traditional methods.

Boat-towed Detectors Assist Researchers and Salvors

A number of archaeological groups and marine service companies are acquiring boat-towed metal detectors to assist in locating shipwrecks and to perform geophysical surveys. These devices can locate a variety of targets including the piles of magnetic ballast stones found on many old wrecks, gold and silver bars, cannons, anchors, pipelines, cables, and various metal debris which must be removed from an area before dredging. The two primary pieces of equipment used in these operations are a magnetometer and pulse induction (PI) metal detectors.
