Longtime Maersk executive Jack Mahoney has been named president and CEO of Westwood Shipping Lines, Inc., a Puyallup, Wash. based independent conbulk liner carrier in the north Transpacific trade. He succeeds Guy Stephenson who is retiring after 13 years in the role. Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that Ketra Anderson has been named vice president of safety, security, quality and environmental stewardship (SSQE), replacing Paul Manzi, who has been named vice president of the company’s new Alaska Tankers group. Anderson, will be based in Seattle, and report to Carl Fox, senior vice president, corporate services. As vice president of SSQE, Anderson is responsible for the strategic leadership of the company's number one core value—safety. This includes individual safety, security, quality and environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that its annual Tribute to the Seventh Coast Guard District will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. At the event, the Foundation will recognize Coast Guard Sector San Juan with the Coast Guard Foundation Award and will also recognize Joseph E. Farrell, Jr., president and CEO of Resolve Marine Group, for his support of the Coast Guard Foundation. Vice Admiral Karl Schultz, Commander of the Atlantic Area will be the keynote speaker and Reggie Rivers will emcee the event.

A student team fielded by the University of North Texas (UNT) won the Intermodal Association of North America’s (IANA) third annual Intermodal Challenge, earning national recognition for their university through IANA’s growing young professionals development program. The first place award was presented to UNT’s Curtis Pogue, Sarah McLaughlin and Chris Turner at the Intermodal Expo in Houston, Texas. The Board of Directors of Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) has named J. Russell Bruner the next President and CEO of Maersk Line, Limited. Mr. Bruner will succeed John F. Reinhart, who will step down on January 31, 2014 to become the CEO and Executive Director of the Port of Virginia. Mr. Bruner joined Maersk in 1989 and has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Maersk, Inc. since 2004. He also has been an Executive Vice President of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group since 2006. Mr. Bruner has held various leadership positions in Maersk’s container businesses, both within the U.S. and internationally. “Russ has the experience, values and vision to lead MLL into the future,” said Admiral Hal Gehman (U.S. Navy, retired), Chairman of Maersk Line, Limited.

Horizon Lines, Inc. has announced that William A. Hamlin has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In his new role, Mr. Hamlin will continue to report to Sam Woodward, President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hamlin joined Horizon Lines in March 2011 as Senior Vice President of Operations. His responsibilities include ocean transportation services, inland transportation, terminals, equipment management, maintenance, network management, labor relations, security, safety and environmental.

Joe Johnson has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Coal, in the Ingram Barge Company of Nashville, Tennessee. Joe Johnson already is serving in this newly created position, and the Ingram sales team now reports to him, with respect to their coal accounts. He joined Ingram in 2002 and has handled the majority of the company’s utility and export coal customer base. Prior to joining Ingram, he gained over 20 years of experience in the coal industry. The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) will present the 2010 East Coast-based Connie Awards to J. Russell Bruner, Chairman and CEO of Maersk Inc. and James I. Newsome III, President and CEO of the South Carolina State Ports Authority. The evening event on Tuesday, December 7 at The Newark Club will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of CII. The Newark Club event is in addition to the West Coast-based Connie Awards on September 30 in Long Beach, CA, honoring Ron Widdows and Jon Hemingway. CII holds two Connie events each year to accommodate industry leaders on both coasts. Each recipient is being honored for his significant influence in containerization in worldwide trade and transportation, according to Allen Clifford, CII President.

Peter I. Keller, President of NYK Line (North America) Inc., has been selected the 2009 Person of the Year by the New York/New Jersey Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers Association, Inc. "Peter Keller has significantly impacted the global trade community and demonstrated great leadership in the international transport industry," said Matthew Brauner, Association President. The award will be presented during the 92nd annual dinner at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on January 28, 2009. This event draws nearly 900 guests. The dinner will also feature a sports and entertainment memorabilia auction. Peter Keller was elected to the Governing Board of NYK in Tokyo in April of 2007.

The diplomats of tomorrow met with Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Vice Adm. John Morgan and naval strategist Capt. Dan Cloyd at the , March 26 to discuss the new joint-service Maritime Strategy and what it means to the nation's future. Over 50 students and faculty from the university's Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) gathered in an intimate forum to listen to Morgan as he described the way ahead for national and global security, shared Sea Service responsibility for peace and prosperity and layered defense of the American homeland. He also outlined goals for the prevention of war and planning for humanitarian relief as priorities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Morgan is the deputy chief of naval operations for information, plans and strategy.

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that Bob Cox has joined the company's petroleum distribution group as general manager. Cox is based in the company's Anchorage office and reports to Craig Tornga, vice president of petroleum distribution. In his new position, Cox is responsible for Crowley's 14 Alaska marine and aviation petroleum terminals, which have a combined fuel capacity of 39 million gallons. A veteran of the Alaska petroleum sales and distribution market, Cox also brings transportation experience to his position. Cox, a registered civil engineer, is a board member at the Alaska Resource Development Council Board, Alaska Chadux Corporation, SEAPRO, Intermodal Transportation Institute and the University of Denver.

Hub Group founder and Chairman Phillip C. Yeager was made a Doctor of Public Service after receiving an honorary doctorate from the Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver, Colorado earlier this month. ITI recognized Yeager as a leader in the freight transportation industry and for his role in creating and building Hub Group, Inc. “This is a great honor,” Yeager said upon accepting his doctorate. HUB Group supports the higher education offered at ITI by sending eligible professionals from the company to the University of Denver campus to complete the ITI Executive Master’s Program, the only graduate program of its kind in intermodal transportation. Yeager founded Hub Group in 1971, and presided over the company’s growth in North America’s intermodal markets.
