Austal USA Vice President of Engineering, Tom Perrine, has retired after eight years of service with the company and over 40 years in the shipbuilding industry. During his tenure, Perrine led Austal USA’s engineering department overseeing the work of over 250 engineers, naval architects, designers, and other engineering support staff and overseeing the department’s shift to include steel design and construction.During Perrine’s tenure with the company, Austal USA delivered 23 surface combatants and auxiliaries to the U.S.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today that Irwin F. Edenzon will retire on Dec. 1, 2014. Edenzon is currently corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Although Edenzon will not officially retire until December 2014, he will step down as president on March 31, 2014, and the HII Board of Directors has elected Brian Cuccias to succeed Edenzon in the position of corporate vice president and president of Ingalls Shipbuilding, effective April 1, 2014.

Robert Dominguez, lead database administrator (DBA) and database architect at Ingalls Shipbuilding, was recently featured as "Role Model of the Week" on the Great Minds in STEM website. Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that nine employees from its Newport News Shipbuilding and Ingalls Shipbuilding divisions were recognized for achievements in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) during the 27th annual Black Engineer of the Year Award STEM Global Competitiveness Conference. This year's conference is being held at the Washington Marriott in Wardman Park through Saturday. Theodore A. Bush is an electrical engineer at Ingalls Shipbuilding. He has played a key role in his group's contribution to the Large Deck Amphibious (LDA) Program and the Navy's newest fleet of the San Antonio-class amphibious assault ships. The National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) Modern Shipbuilding Design project team has completed and delivered five continuing education marine design courses: Basics of Electrical System Design, Basics of HVAC Design, Basics of Pipe System Modeling, Basics of Structural Modeling, and Design for Production. Funded by the Navy and industry through the NSRP collaboration, the project was planned and facilitated by a 17-member team led by Bender Shipbuilding and Repair with significant support from the University of South Alabama and the University of Wisconsin—Marinette. Austal has been awarded the Engineering Project of the Year for its high speed vehicle-passenger ferry Alakai at the Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE) annual awards banquet held on February 22. Austal designed and built Hawaii Superferry’s Alakai which currently operates inter-island routes in the Hawaiian Islands. Alakai is a 107-metre high-speed passenger/vehicle ferry and is the largest aluminum vessel ever built in the United States. The ferry holds up to 866 passengers and 282 cars, or a combination of cars and large trucks, and can travel at speeds of up to 40 knots.

American Commercial Barge Line has appointed Captain Samuel S. Dickey to the position of marine superintendent. He previously facilitated the training of ACBL Captains and Watch Captains at Seamen’s Church Institute in Paducah, Ky. Dickey attended the University of North Alabama and has 34 years of experience in the industry. Mario Muñoz has accepted the position of manager of corporate safety and loss control with ACBL. Muñoz was previously risk analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Alabama. Muñoz currently serves as a member of the Towing Safety Committee. Captain Al L. Weaver has accepted the position of Marine Superintendent with ACBL.

American Commercial Lines Inc. has appointed Sam George to the position of vice president of environmental compliance, James L. Adams to the position of Vice President of Governmental Policy and Mario A. Muñoz to the position of Vice President, Regulatory Compliance. George brings several years of chemical and environmental compliance knowledge to the company. His most recent position was vice president of Madison Chemical Co., where he managed all environmental and regulatory compliance programs as well as environmental consulting services. He is a graduate of Hanover College and a graduate of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. Adams brings a background in transportation and public policy to the company.

Mario Muñoz has been promoted to Director of Fleet Operations for American Commercial Barge Line LLC. His responsibilities include management of fleet operations, fleet vessel contractors and land leases. Muñoz is a graduate of the University of South Alabama and is currently pursuing and MBA from Bellarmine University in Lousiville, KY.
