Waypoints Projects Launches to Provide Project Support and Training Services

A new maritime and industrial project management firm, Waypoints Projects, has officially launched. Founded by Thomas van Tol, Waypoints Projects offers expert project support and training for businesses before, during and after projects. Van Tol started his career as a project manager at Damen, and over the years rose to project director, heading up large projects worth over €100 million  and 100 of staff. Maritime Subcontracting: 'Do it Right' for Successful Projects

Within the maritime sector not enough attention is paid to maritime subcontracting. And yet, it is as important as the main contracts that maritime main contractors conclude with their clients, such as shipping companies and buyers of superyachts. The same applies to the oil & gas and renewable energy industry. Thomas van Tol, co-founder of The Synergy Partner, writes: "As many maritime main contractors do not conclude contracts with their subcontractors in the right way, they take major risks for themselves as well as for their clients. Most of the time they are not aware of it.

Teekay Petrojarl Contracts Damen for FPSO Upgrade

Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR), part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), has been awarded an EPC contract by Petrojarl I LLC for the upgrade of its FPSO Petrojarl I. The Petrojarl I is a Teekay Petrojarl managed FPSO built in 1986 which has been active in the North Sea. Its redeployment will be at the Atlanta field in Brazil. The Petrojarl I is contracted by Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção (QGEP) for deployment at the Atlanta post-salt oil field in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil to produce heavy crude oil in a water depth of 1,535m.

Van Tol Honored for 30 Years of Service

Arie Van Tol, a veteran Port Authority employee who currently manages the New York Marine Terminals, has been honored for more than 30 years of distinguished service to the bistate agency and the maritime community, Port Commerce Director Richard M. Larrabee announced today. Larrabee presented Van Tol, a Montville, N.J., resident, with the Lillian C. Borrone Award, given to individuals who render unusually effective service to the port community. The award is named for Lillian C. Borrone, a longtime director of the Port Authority’s Port Commerce Department who retired in 2001. “Arie is the consummate maritime industry professional who cares deeply about the Port Authority’s maritime terminal facilities and its tenants,” Mr. Larrabee said.
